HI FI deluxe broken hub. What do I need to do?

I have a 2010 Gary fisher/Trek hi fi delux 29er with Mustang wheels.

The other day I was riding and the rear rotor fell off causing one of the bolts to strip the hub out.

So can I ride it with 5 bolts in it and just leave the 6th one empty?

I would like to eventually fix it right but have no idea what to do.

Do I need to buy another hub and have the wheel relaced?
If so, what hub should I get? Should I upgrade the hub?

I have already purchased a new rotor and pads so I don't really want to go to a bigger rotor or anything that would cause me to buy a different rotor.

I definitely will be investing in some lock tight.
I am very mechanically inclined. I am just new to the cycling / 29er thing.
So I have no clue which parts are the best or what I need to be looking for.

Quite possibly will be covered under the Bontrager/Trek 5-year wheel warranty, that is if you bought the bike new. If so, take to the LBS and ask.

I would ride with 5 bolts, if you want a new hub Trek website has this listed as original equipment: Shimano M525 SL. You could try to warranty it through Shimano at your LBS, or buy another for $20 or however much a cheap Shimano hub costs. Upgrade to XT hub and forget about it.

    What is an XT?

If I buy another hub,, I am guessing I will have the wheel respoked correct?
How much does it usually cost to have a hub replaced?

I would also invest in a torque wrench of the proper range.

If you replace the hub with the same hub, the spokes could be reused. If you get a different hub, it may require different length spokes.

edit...XT is a higher level Shimano hub.

The price of labor varies greatly, here is St Louis I know of a shop that does free wheel building if you buy all the parts from them, and I know of shops that charge $75 or more per wheel. You just need to talk to your local shop, they will fix you up.

    I have a torques wrench.

If I went with an XT hub would I reuse the same spokes?

I will call around and see what the prices are on wheel building

Just to clarify (and forgive me if I'm stating the obvious)...I was referring to a torque wrench to set the correct in/lbs of torque, not a Torx wrench, which is the fastener type.

Yes. The S was a typo.

    Foot pounds and NM

Anyone know what size hub I would need?
I was looking up the XT hubs and noticed they come in different sizes.
