    1998 Tassajara

My 1998 Tassajara. I haven't seen any on this thread or any where else. I upgraded through the years. Replaced the crappy Indy Shox with Judy Race. Also, new wheelset, Easton Monkey Bars and Stem, Bontrager Race Seat. Otherwise stock. Good old 3x7 drivetrain.

GF Paragon I just got last night. Its a 2009 frame that just got warrantied. Basically all new components. Roxshox Recon Silver TK, BB7, shimano deore derailleurs with sram shifters, Bontrager Rhythm Comp wheels and race face atlas bar. huge step up over what I was using before. I love it

oh and I need to replace those platforms quick. They have no grip and I have a feeling they are going to break soon, made out of plastic. I've got my eye on these: http://www.pricepoint.com/detail.htm...d=240%20DMRV87. Would like to stick with red, compliments the bike nicely. any other recommendations?

I've had good luck with the MG-1s from Wellgo. THey are made of magnesium and are very light and strong too. They come in various colors, including red.

I noticed you went Ghetto Tubeless using Gorilla Tape.

What valves did you use (any problems?) and why go Ghetto instead of using the Bontrager TLR rim strips?

    Thanks.

    Gorilla Ghetto Tubeless

Ghetto cost: $30 Gorilla Tape $8, Stans Presta Valves $12, and Slime Sealant $10

Shop quote: $80 for the bontrager stems, TLR strips, their sealant, and install.

So I guess I went ghetto tubeless to save $50.

So far I haven't had any burps, but I don't run my tires super low, FR- 30lbs and RR-32lbs. I weigh about 185-190. I have been running it this way since April 2nd, 2011 and have only had to top off the pressure once. If you decide to do this, the Duster rims have a deep channel so you will have to do 2 wraps of gorilla tape.

Thanks for the info and reply (I'll keep your tip for 2 wraps in mind). After your reply I searched and found MTBR threads with video links/info also detailing the ghetto installation process.

I asked because after numerous attempts, I - and my LBS - were unable to get a secure valve seal on one of my Duster rims using the Bontrager TLR rim strips and valves. (The rim's valve hole was drilled so off-center that the thin Bontrager valve o-ring can't properly seat the tilted valve stem for a secure seal.)

I thought my only option was to use a Stan's Flow Rim Strip @ $22.50 each (with the integrated valve stem), but now I'll try the ghetto method for a season, since I already have the parts and will use cut-out valves from old tubes.

Thanks again.....btw, while your shop quoted you $80 for a Bontrager tubeless install, here are the prices of the required Bontrager TLR parts (their quote must have included $30 for labor):

    TLR Rim Strip: $10 each
    TLR Valve: $6.50 each
Bontrager Super Juice: $20/bottle (more than enough for two tires)

    1994 Tassajara

Just found this the other day at local sale. Nothing modified- looks stock according to the 1994 catalog online. It's virtually spotless- love the old bikes!

In 2008 I bought a 2005 'Paragon' frame and built it up Twice (once in 2008 and again in 2010.) Best Bike I have ever had and finally have it 'dialed in' the way I want it. (RXL stem and post, Salsa Bars, WTB Rocket V saddle, Chris King headset, XT 2x10 crank with bashguard, New REBA fork which increased trail from 38mm to 46mm, Elixer R brakes, Ergon grips, WTB Laser disc wheels--with WTB Lite hubs, Racing Ralph tires, X9 and XT everything else).
I am 225lbs (down from 260) and this Paragon hasn't cracked yet!!--AND I ride in Central Pa. which has the rockiest and rootiest trails in the country.

Bone stock 2004 Tarpon for your viewing adventure. This bike may not be fancy, but rocks the single track. RST 191s are weak but I'll ride them into the ground all day long!
