    Adding Bashguard to Rumblefish 1 '10

    I ordered a BBG Bashguard to replace the 44t ring. I plan to try keeping the 32t middle ring.

    If I decide i need to increase the size of the middle ring to 36t, will i have to replace the front derailleur? the specs for the SLX direct mount that i have state a middle to top ring capacity of 12t. Since i'm looking at the small to middle capacity of 14t (with the 22x36), does the 12t limit apply there as well?

    Also, it doesn't seem that Shimano makes their double specific SLX derailleur in the direct mount style - so any other options there?

    If you're using the original cranks, just with a bashguard in place of the big ring, you don't need to (and shouldn't) use a different derailleur. Just adjust the high limit screw so that you can't shift onto the bashguard. The double specific is for 10 speed double (factory, not just with the big ring removed) cranks. Your cranks will still be a triple, in technical terms.

    I did exactly what you are talking about, a BBG first for the 32 and now for the 36 on my RF 2010. Works great.

    Did that to my Paragon last year (cause Pennsylvania has some really rocky/rooty trails)

    Old thread, but I wanted to chime in. Shimano did make the SLX front derailleur for DOUBLE SPECIFIC 2x9 drivetrains. I have one. It worked great -- kept the same chainline as the 3x9 stuff, but was optimized for 2x9 + bash ring. It had a smaller cage and was easier to dial in your high limit screw to keep from over-shifting.
    The regular SLX derailleurs were FD-M660/661, the double specific were FD-M665/667.
