    welding dilemma- need help

I'm contemplating a more modern upgrade to my 96 CT frame. I received a free frame from another person because of a broken dropout and I found someone who can weld and heat treat it properly.
My dilemma is whether or not to add modern adjustable dropouts and a rear disc mount. I'm sold on the disc mount but don't know what kind of sliding dropouts I should have- vertical or horizontal. Either one will have a der. hanger so I can run gears.
For the same amount of money, the welder offered to fabricate a completely new rear triangle made of steel.
    Pros/Cons of either?
Steel rear triangle mated to aluminum main triangle?
I know this isn't a normal VRC question but it does pertain to my VRC bike and there are plenty of people here who have modern bikes who can weigh in on this.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Try the frame building forum. There's tons of great info and experience there.
Zip ties? Not on my bike!

How is he planing on joining the steel rear to the aluminum front?

Personally I'd add disc tabs and call it a day.

The two triangles join together at a single pivot using top hat bushings. I've been quoted $700 to do the re-welding on the aluminum and the same price if I get a whole new rear triangle made of steel.
