    How to attache these dropouts?

Hi - I don't quite get these dropouts... what is the point of the cutouts on the tabs? How should they be attached... i.e. how far in should they go? To complicate things the tabs are tapered. Should I cut a v shaped slot to fit? Would really appreciate your thoughts!

Probably they save weight and heat up to temperature faster.

Cover the holes enough so they aren't exposed when you taper your ends.

Only if you really want to. You can just overfill a square notch and then file flush.

I wonder if the tapers are for allowing straight stays to come in on an angle, not requiring the drop-out to be bent or using S-bend stays.

If I don't make an attempt, how will I know if it will work?

I could see it helping that, but I've also seen it as a cosmetic treatment:

It's a neat look, always wanted to try it.

i bet they're for domed stays perhaps?
See this blog for pictures. Once v-slotted you hammer the chainstay ends over the dropout so you wouldn't have to fill it with much brass at all for a solid connection.
    Just a theory...
