I recently built a kick bike for my son, but I didn't want to buy a new stem or some pricey short rise BMX bars. So, I gathered up some steel handle bars from some locals and made my own.
Now, these will never see any 'real' use, but I figured I share anyway...
HEY! You've already seen it! My step daughter and I attempted to hit the BMX track last weekend but we had a tire blow-out on the way, so we just headed back home. If she is interested in BMX she'll get a frame too. Until then....the Kick Bike is the only thing of mine my kiddos are riding.
I think it just kicks ass you can build your kids stuff from scratch. My approach is cobbling together old/light XC parts for my youngest son - he's rocking an old Trek 850 with a sweet old Zoke fork on it and some light Bonty XC wheels.
My older kid is riding a Specialized P1 and digging that a lot.
But hot damn it would be super cool to be able to build them bikes from the tubes up.
Good on ya Sir!
