Downtube tubing choices
I'm wondering if i'm missing a good option for a 9/6/9 x 35 tube that is over 700mm in length. True Temper is what I would like to use but there's only OX Plat in 8/5/8 for that OD and length, or a Supertherm 1/7/1.
Seems like a missing tube in the line? You're kinda forced into using a really light or really heavy tube in that diameter for bigger frames. I'll probably use the HOX2DT01 (38 x 9/6/9 x 749) but it's a bit overkill for this frame. Seems like there should be a 35mm x 9/6/9 x 735mm...
Hi Meriwether, I am not sure if this helps at all, but depending on if you can source it easily Reynolds do some good options:
853 34.9 O.9/0.6/0.9 730 120/50/300/50/210
853dzb 34.9 1.1-O.9/0.6/0.9 740 40/20/60/50/300/50/160
631 34.9 0.9/0.6/0.9 714 120/30/320/30/214
Thanks Toby! I haven't tried using Reynolds or found their tubing but looks like Fairing is the US supplier. I don't have a Fairing account unfortunately. Those are good choices!
Nova has more options that don't look half bad, but i really don't know where they source their tubes (other than hearing it's made in China?). 35 x 9/6/9 x 750mm, 80mm and 150mm butts.
29er DT 35 x 9/6/9 x 750 :: TUBES STEEL :: Nova Cycles Supply Inc.
I've used the Nova/TT/ and have some Reynolds on the way. Fairing was fine to deal with after all the paperwork. Reynolds makes 95% of it's tubes made to order, so there's none in inventory, hence a bit of delay. Fairing puts in their orders monthly it seems. Did just get back from a vaca in England and managed a tour at Reynolds. The longest tube they draw on their main butting mandrel is 750mm due to the length of the arm
sorry fuzzy phone photo. Any combo of butt thickness are possible.
