I have not worn them pedaling, but I have found the icetrekkers are by far the best strap on cleats.

Other utilize the studs from 45north and place them in the soles of their shoes.

5/8 inch long hex head screws drilled into the lugs of the boots will work better and be way cheaper than strap on spikes. just can't walk on wood floors with them.

EMS sells a kit for $25 or so or spend a couple of bucks at the hardware store.

    Shoes spikes for ice?

If the spikes holes in the front of your shoes won't suffice, I would do without. As for a light and removable traction device, Microspikes by Kahtoola are pretty awesome in the mountains. I've used them for a couple of winter trail run races, and prefer them above tree line to my crampons, but when crampons are needed, they're needed.
