Love the new bikes, glad they are spicing up the model line with lots of choices. Hope they make a 100mm rim bike with Dillinger 5s to compete with the Specialized which was a great first year bike. The competition will force new innovations from every brand and hopefully set some kind of standards for rear spacing.

    Yes
A standard rear spacing would be great
    I'm keen on the 170 rear as I don't need a 5" tire
But I would think it will settle down on the 190

Most tires called 5" will fit great on the 170 / 177 rear. If I do a wider tire I might try a Dillinger 5 on front which should be 112mm on a 85mm rim. I ride rivers and creeks and feel the need for some studs for safety.

Hopefully the HED rims work out for you always a good idea to save weight. It should balance out the weight of the studs on the dillenger tires you will be telling us you are ordering soon because you got an awesome deal and you are such bros that Amazon prime just air drops stuff to your house because you are such a good customer.
If you haven't caught my drift you are awesome. Your stack of bike pics are awesome. My fav is the vehicle with a bike worth more posed on it. I know that it is just used for hauling the bike from the garage to the yard because it would be way to tall to get on your roof rack for you hummer h1 that you got a good deal on.

Sounds like some pretty ignorant advice on using Motorized Vehicle Lights on a peddle bicycle. Also your drift sounds like its out in left field ..

So let's see you have maybe 10 brand new bikes and have upgraded everything on them as well as tons of bike gear to not ride them.
Well either you are a troll and are lying about everything, want to be a bully by bragging about things you don't have (but can take pics of because you work at a bike shop), or you are absolutely an idiot, but we all know that anyway.

Trek, please tell us a little about yourself. What do you do for a living? I see you have a very organized desk. Maybe self-employed? Married, single? Are you wealthy? Have you ever ridden a mountain bike? What's your motivation in annoying everyone? You really got the fat-bike forum regulars going. You may be winning.

I have an XX1 and a XO1 crank and they are the same except color and chainring spider which I do not use. I bought Wolf tooth's spiderless for both bikes and I am impressed with how well they work and how tough they are.

I agree, I have all x01 on my fattie and it is stellar. My point is how can they call it a Beargrease XX1 when it's not fully xx1? I actually like the x01 cassette better than the xx1

Trek Mogul is a definite troll.
Who else spends tens of thousands of dollars on bikes in one week to then not ride them?
Why keep buying bikes if you don't ride the ones you currently have?
Why doesn't he respond correctly to the questions he has been asked?

I am not 100% sure I understand exactly where that is, however if it is the width of the frame where the crank set is set in, that looks to be 12 MM ..?

I think he means across the BB parallel to the bottom bracket for the cranks. Though not sure what would be 12mm at the bb in general.

Random fun fact: the salsa and surly bikes are brands owned by the same company called QPB which sell numerous brands. I know many companies do this but was kind of surprised since salsa and surly are big names.

WHY the hell do people keep entertaining this idiot. He ordered 4500 lumens of light for a bike that he himself said would never be off-road and would only be used at home. I can't even give him anymore negative rep. I am reporting his posts as spam now. He is clearly here just as a spam troll.

SALSA BEARGREASE Carbon Machine-lupine-c.jpgFinally had a chance to get the Lupine Betty R14 mounted to the plastic beargrease and took her for a ride in the dark. First impressions of the light are very positive. 4500 Lumens is more powerful then you think..This is german quality all the way..SALSA BEARGREASE Carbon Machine-lupine-b.jpg

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am gonna ask it anyways. Just starting to look at fatbikes and was wondering if this is a 29er. Some stuff I have read call it a 29er and some don't. Thanks.

Ask your question in another thread? Why on earth would you ask in this thread? The diameter is about the same to answer your question.

The wheel size is 26" the diameter is roughly the size of a 29er for going over logs, rocks etc. When purchasing fenders or other things like racks you buy the ones that fit 29ers so they will fit the shape of the tire.

26" rim, but the total wheel/tyre diameter is very close to 29".

Considering the thread you chose to make this post on, it's not ridiculous. The only thing that's ridiculous, is this thread on MTBR. There is so much useful information on these forums, that you'll be able to answer any question you might have about fat bikes. This thread is not one of them unfortunately.

All I can say is "once you go fat, you never go back"

Not a problem here, I had the same question 3 years ago when all the fenders and racks for my original Mukluk were 29er sized. This thread has been taken over by a Troll and has drowned out much of the real conversation. If you are interested in the Beargrease you are in one of the right places, it's a great bike and has changed the way I feel about fat bikes and how they should handle.

What the hell is going on in here? Trekmogul is not the problem, its everyone that keeps replying to him. If he is bothering you, don't talk to him. Thats Internet 101. This thread would be fine if it wasn't for everyone who keeps trying to prove him whatever. Just leave it alone: either post about the Salsa Beargrease or don't post.

How do you figure he is not the problem? He has an entire thread to BS and spam about products. He is not asking questions or offering advice he is just posting product after product with all but a link to buy them. This thread hasnt been about the salsa beargrease for a long time. It is just a lonely guy bragging that he is buying the most expensive products at "great prices" "with super fast shipping"

He isn't posting about riding or anything related.

    Cool-blue Rhythm

This is what should be posted for example. 4 people headed out for a 60 mile ride. One of the ladies attempted the ITI in 2010 as well. They were heading out to use fatbikes. To ride them and explore. Trekbungle has no interest in riding his bike and has said that more than once. I dropped these folks off yesterday. They will probably be back to Homer in a few days with big grins and great stories.

So since your are defending him. I guess he isn't following your rules since he isn't really posting about the salsa beargrease. I haven't seen a post saying wow not having a front derailuer is awesome or yeah this 30t chain ring is gonna work great for the riding I am doing. Or I like this full on xx1 setup vs my wolftooth that I had on my previous bike. Wouldn't that be talking about the beargrease? Not hey look at me I am an asshat who is pretending to spend tons of money so my grandkids are impressed when I wad my 10000 dollar bike with **** hanging all over the place on it into the garage door because my fox racing downhill pants got caught on my 3rd pair of super expensive azonic racing pedals because I didn't have a bluto to jump over the flower pot and do a stoppie because my crap top of the level brakes didn't work because I unhooked them so I would have a place to put my 3rd go pro on my handlebars because I really like having it panoramic. It's sweet cause I got a good deal on Jeff jones bars now I have 4 feed bags two bells and my ar15 mount will be here as soon as the brown truck arrives because I got a great deal and the shipped it overnight. I was gonna get the shimano camera but it want as expensive as the go pro and they didn't want to sponsor my new fatbike driveway racing series. It's too bad because I was gonna give salsa a really good deal. Even though I told them I am super loyal to trek and the Farley Is crap. My 2014 bike is totally outdated now anyways. The 2015 is gonna be awesome. Salsa was just joking when they said it was basically unchanged. I can really feel the geometry differnce personally. Cannondale is thinking about sending me the new lefty to try since salsa worked so hard with rock shok. I can get a better deal on it though.

I think that fairly sums up what captain trek troll. I mean super loyal even though I have an entire thread on a salsa bike had posted for us.

As stupid as this sounds this thread should be about the carbon beargrease. Keep the other topics to the appropriate forums. I moved all the go pro stuff to its own thread in our excellent video forum.

Any chance on getting the troll-age and the reaction to the troll-age cleaned out of the thread so it can really be about the Beargrease?

Honestly considering the source material and subsequent posts about it, you would be better to just create a new thread about the beargrease where people that use their bikes for riding trails could comment and give more constructive advice then buy expensive **** and pose it in front of your desk.

I have left this more as a funny read thread, every forum needs one and this is the fat bike forums golden star of a thread!

I kinda miss him, I don't think we have really nailed down what this guy is all about yet. But what I really miss is bdundee's responses and all the love he was getting from a few others.

Come on Trek, it too hot to bike today and I'm a little bored, please liven things up a bit!

Let's talk about the Beargrease. I have a 2013 aluminum Beargrease. Nobody ever mentions it anymore with all this talk about carbon. Its almost damaging my self esteem, but I will get over it. I think it is a fine bike and now it is back in 2015. Trek, would you ever ride an aluminum bike?

And please stop calling Carbon bikes plastic. They AREN'T BLOODY PLASTIC. They're carbon fibre and if you weren't such a troll you would know that Carbon bikes have a frame made of fibres placed in a mold, not molten stuff poured into a mold.
