    On One floaters

I have read that vee rubber manufactured the On One floater tires. Are the floaters using the same casing as the vee rubber offerings, or is the whole tire custom?

    Thanks

    On One floaters

Looking at this posters review of the BFLs compared to the floater, I'll wager it's a vee rubber casing. The poster mentions the casing being of harder compounds than the BFL. I would also speculate that since the floater has pretty tall and wide siped knobbies, it mimics the handling of the Nate. You can see what I am talking about in my other vee rubber v8 post. Basically, with higher and siped knobbies, less tire is on the ground creating less drag and/or self steer. It is also referred to as auto steer or radial pull. All vee rubber offerings seem to have a flattish profile with short, solid knobbies. I think both these issues are causing the poor steering on these tires, IMHO.

I have no hard facts that what I claim is true, but no one answered the post. By researching and reading riders accounts, this is my conclusion.

Is the plant x website the only site to find the floaters? And whats up with the $60 shipping fee. The tires are a good price but with that ridiculous shipping, I still feel like I'm getting ripped off. Thoughts?

I agree 100% with you on feeling like you're getting ripped. It's because you are with $60 shipping. Yes, that's the only place to get them. They aren't stocking their US warehouse anymore so that the only option. I just got a pair so I'm hoping they last me a couple seasons since it's not my primary bike and there will be cheaper options by then.

My second "budget" tire option was going to be panaracer fat b nimble.

Yes, they stopped stocking US distribution and the shipping kills this tire. The panaracer or 4.0 Kenda Juggernaut don't have the same aggressive lugs. The 4.5 Kenda Juggernaut does if you can fit the larger tire and don't mind the weight penalty of a steel bead 60tpi tire (or can wait for the 120/folding bead version to hit the stores).

I would look elsewhere even though I love my floaters. At 110 a pair they were a great deal and the above two tires are the only things that are close. At 170 you have lots of options.
