New 8 speed hubgear from SRAM

    SRAM G8

Weight 2188g (don't know if that includes the shifter)

    Belt drive option.

Anyone had their hands on one yet? The weight is more than an Alfine 8 so that's one negative, but there's a good history of reliable hubs from SRAM and its ancestors.

There are a number of interesting points on that info page.

    -New generation of gear hubs

Hubs with an s, which suggests that there are more to come. Maybe the next is an 11 speed to match the Alfine 11, and perhaps their own XX1 1x11? They seem pretty clear that this is for everyday riding, however, and it doesn’t look like there are even mounts for disc brakes.

    -Snappy, derailleur-like shifting
    -Sleek German design

    Inviting comparisons to Rohloff?

    -Robust, maintenance-free system
-Shifting under load or when stopped

SRAM has an R&D facility in Germany. I'm guessing that's the reference.

I was an early purchaser of the previous i-Motion 9, what a POS. I'll be waiting to hear from others before I consider the new SRAM 8. The present SRAM offerings are un-sellable to OEM accounts so SRAM had to do something to get back in the OEM market. There's already the very well proven Alfine 8, SRAM has it's work cut out.
