    Knardy Mukluk

Did only 500km on my Knard/RabbitHole equiped MuklukTi this summer but I am happy with them as summer-tires. The Knard/RH also fits fine in the Flame fork I'm using

Now I'll see how a wet autumn works with them and when I switch back to real fat (HuskerDu's are yearning for some milage)

Upgrade to XX1 has also met expectations.

Awesome. Sounds like you found a good setup. Have you ever dropped all of the air pressure in the Flame to see if the Knard/RH will clear the crown? I've always been curious.

If you let all the air out, it will touch the knobs. After properly tuning it, it never happened on a trail ... and there were some nice drops

Good to know. I agree chances are slim that you would ever fully bottom out the fork.

Just the XX1 Gripshift is behaving strange during the last 2 rides... not staying in the gears, like the gripshift doesn't lock in the gears anymore.

Going on muddy trails after/during a rainshower show a weakness of the knard. On sections with 10-20cm deep mud, I lost traction often. It was like mud filling up the spaces between the knows and making them smooth as slicks.

Gonna give Bud/Lou a go on through the mud.

+1 - they don't like wet BC roots either. Slick as snot.

Next spring is a safe bet. I could use them during the winter here as we don't get snow we get WET!

Strange. CX width knards are good in the wet mud. Of course they're also much smaller though =P

Two factors are at play when talking about mud performance:

    1. what kind of mud?

    - like snow and sand there is a ton of possibilities here
    - often people aren't talking about the same thing

    2. ground pressure

    - depending on conditions a skinnier tire will penetrate a soft surface [can be mud or snow] and grip the underlying hard surface
    - a wider lower pressure tire can slip on the soft surface and not get any traction

Personally I'm not sold on the wider is always better concept. I've got a range of tire sizes and wheel sizes in my garage and I like 'em all a lot. I pick the best one for the conditions at hand.
