Since I would normally be out riding the fatbike on 1 Dec (saturday, yea!) I think I could go along with the idea.

Pics or it didn't happen? Otay!

Time? Uhh.... I'm in Mountain time zone which is GMT -6. I would usually be riding in the morning, which would be GMT 3am - 7am (I think?)

Perhaps everybody take a pic at 9am their time? Easier to do worldwide, I think.

Ride a bike day is not 'niche' enough for Fatties.

I'm in!! If there's snow in the mtns. I'll head up there, and if not, maybe some inland sand. If it's sand, do you wan't to try to meet somewhere Rocky Rider (and any other NW Fatbikers)? Depending on weather of coarse but if there's no snow we could ride Beverly Dunes/Crab Creek, Moses Lake, or that Frenchman Coulee area we've been looking at.

More than likely I’ll be riding my 9:zero:7 on December 1st… in the Pacific Time Zone, however (I think that’s -8:00 GMT or some crap like that).

Was just a random date that was coming up....we can do a regular one every few month or so if its popular and gets people out.

All we want is people to be enjoying there fatbikes all around the world on the same day then come back and share a pic and a few words of where you went

It's great to see this idea coming to life. Thanks guys!

Just to explain the idea a little further, the plan is to start a thread the day before in readiness. The time we plucked out of the air is 11:00am LOCAL TIME. It's just a guide, but an hour or two either way is cool- whatever works for you.

So, as the hour approaches, you head out on your fat bike. Go anywhere or do anything; an epic mountain ride with your buddies, a beach ride with your family, a solo ride around the park, in the city, in the factory or down the corridor of your office block if you are at work. Just get out on your Fatty, get a photo and feel the warmth of the growing fat bike community doing the same thing around the world.

When you get home, put your photo and a brief line about the location in the thread. We should then get a great thread developing over a 24hour period.

It's a pretty simple idea but it needs you guys to make it happen! Please pass the idea on to all the fat bike owners you know, wherever you are in the world. We have a month to spread the word.

I'm really looking forward to seeing where you all end up.

    Cheers
    Si

That gives 13 months to put together a plan and for us yanks and other non-natives time to put together funds and gather passports.... Wonder how brutal the surcharge to travel with a fat bike would be

I'm sure there are enough spare fat bikes here in the UK if don't want the extra expense of hauling your own over the pond.

I like this idea. Southern Scotland is a beautiful place filled with friendly folk. I'm sure a World Championship gathering would be really special experience.

We'll see how this idea pans out, but it sounds great already.

So what is the official title and where do you want participants to post ride report(s) and pictures?

I can put all that info up on the fat-bike event calendar

    Just confirming - - - December 1st - around 11 am local time

All we need is a title and the url.

We have even using 'Global FatBike Day' as a working title.

There is a thread over of UKFatBikes that people are using to organise events.

It's not been decided where the photo thread will be yet. There will probably be parallel threads on the UK site and on here. Your thoughts on this are welcome.

I put it on the event calendar. Let me know when you decide where you want folks to post their pictures and I'll add that to the listing. Let me know if there's anything else that we can do to help get the word out about this! We'll get a group together locally and do something fat and fun on Dec.1st!

I will be doing a snow ride up at 12,000 feet. I am hoping to find some others willing to join me. Maybe from northern Colorado or southern Wyoming.

I sure wish in the information to the left of posts that we could see where people are at. It would make the forum much more user friendly!

I bekieve that can be done through your 'signature' in your account page. It should appear as in the examples of post #61 and #72, there are others that say...whatever.

saltyman, you across-the-ponders (trans-ponders?) come up with some great ideas, but this may be the best yet. Next to Guinness, of course. Anyway, I'm all in. I'd hate to spend such a momentous day alone, so I'll be working on joining up with ward or RockyRider and/or some of our other northwest fatbikers. "Fatterday" (this rocks, wadester ) should be a super fun day of riding and then watching all the pics and stories roll in! Can't wait.

Could we get a Fatbike rolling somewhere in the world for 24 hours - e.g. NZ guys ride from 10-12 their time and then the Aussies pick up for a couple of hours 10-12, their time? I guess we still have a few gaps that are to long to bridge?

I made a couple of banners for anyone to use to promote their local Global Fat-Bike Day (Fatturday) Celebrations! - right click, save image as and use where ever you want - banners.

EDIT-if anyone's organizing a Minneapolis area ride, or wants help organizing one, PM me. I'll totally turn this into a competition with those UK fatsos.

Maybe it would be a good idea to make a Global Fatbikers map to go with that ?
There is a good example in the Commuterforum : MTBR Commuters - Make your mark on the map
Then we can all put our names and bikes on the map.

to far away from the moonlander

I'm going to be in Hungary on Dec 1st. Unless someone can help me out with a fatbike rental there I'm going to miss out! :-( I will definitely leave the moonlander over at my dad's house so it gets ridden on that day though.

    Calendars Have Been Cleared

The day has definitely been reserved for a fatbike event, by a few of us around here. What that event will be is still in question. Once we have an idea about Fatturday's weather (i.e. whether there's any snow within driving distance), we'll pin down the plan.
