Fork disc mount - front or rear standard?

One of the questions which has come up in the development of the Singular Puffin is that of fork disc standards. For the protos I specified rear standard as I knew I would be using Hope hubs and that is what they use. However a few people have asked whether it would be possible to change to front standard so as to use Jones or Paul 135mm front hubs. This would still allow the use of a rear hub but would require the use of a 4mm spacer behind the disc caliper adaptor or the rotor. Any thoughts?

I would go go front standard. That is what is being used on all the new developments from KT, Joytech, etc. including their upcoming sub 220g models. Looks like that will become the industry standard.

On the other hand the rear standard allows the use of a lower priced rear hub.

I use DMR singlespeed hubs. They are light, cheap, and no "fat" tax.

As little bike as possible, as silent as possible.

Front hub. If buyers want to use a rear hub, let them space it. It's simple and works perfectly.

Thanks for the feedback guys - sounds like front spacing does make sense. I may just get some 4mm washers and suppply them with the frames to save any hassles.

    Hi Sam.
About the washers mentioned above... Have You decided to include them on the Puffin frameset?
