Fatbiking on the Jersey Shore: is it legal/allowed?

a group of friends have rented a house on the shore at Sea Isle next week. Rather than driving with everyone, I thought it might be fun to take a train from Philly to atlantic city and have a nice little 22.7 mile fat bike ride down the beach to the shore house, until it was pointed out that it might not be legal... anyone know if riding fat bikes are allowed on NJ beaches?

I have taken my Pugs to Avalon on 2 separate occasions. The first time I had no problem, but restricted my riding to early morning hours. The second time, 2 weeks ago in fact, I also had no problem except when I took the fatty out for an afternoon spin while winds were howling and rain was threatening. Despite the terrible weather, there were lifeguards out, and one ran after me to politely inform me that bikes were not allowed on the beach from 10a (or 11?) until 5pm. So I took this to mean that as long as there were no lifeguards present, no problem. Just be sure to be super considerate of and polite to other beach goers. I think fatbikers are a new phenomenon on the NJS, so we should kill the other beach users with kindness in order show everyone we can coexist.

By the way, I will be back up there next week with my Pug. Holler if you see a red Pug.

From their Visitor Information page: Beach Information

"Beaches north of 20th Street and south of 93rd Street have no
designations. These beaches do not have lifeguards present and use is
    at one’s own risk."

You could try calling and asking.

I took the first train in this AM from Philly to Atlantic City and rode 25.6 miles from AC to Sea Isle, NJ, partly on boardwalk, but mostly on the beach. I underestimated how far 25 miles on the sand would be. My legs hate me now. BuddaK, feel free to come up for a beer.

The elevation graph for that ride is epic. At some point you climbed an 18 foot mountain. ;-)
