The Fat of Suburbia........AKA Urban Fatbiking.

We all love to ride , well, everywhere on our FB`s.

We've seen pix of trails, sand snow and sea, but what about the rest ?

How about some urban backyard shots of where we all live ?

Show us the good, bad and plain crazy places around your towns.

Let us see the Fat of Suburbia

I lived in downtown Calgary for my first two years of Pugs ownership. We did lots of urban assault rides, but due to the dark and cold didn't document as well as we should have.

Urban winter riding is a great application for a fatbike.

Of course fat and urban doesn't have to be a winter thing.

OTOH if you live in Alberta winter is something you have to deal with.

A Pugsley makes the parks and bikepaths accessible all winter.

    Safe riding,

    Tnx DrF.

I took the pic not far from my house at a place that was once an industrial area where a lot of ships came in and out that went to all corners of the world.
But since the ships became bigger and bigger this place was to small and got redeveloped into a residential area.

I don't know the story behind the statue of the dog.
But i think it sits there waiting for his master to come back from sea.....

EDIT: wondering if Black Floyds would do in places like these (as they probably would rock in urban areas):

Photo is a year old now, but here's my 9:Zero:7 rolling on Large Marges & Maxxis Hookworms at the NYC 5 Boro Bike Tour:

Photo was taken somewhere in Brooklyn. Those tires felt huge then, but seem so small with the Black Floyds out now!

[QUOTE=MiniTrail;9358721]a friend shared this with me and I've been looking for a place in here to show it. sweet or what?
    Attachment 700221

Very sweet! He has all his bases covered.

    Recumbent? Check
    Chopper? Check
    Half Fat? Check
    Exotic Materials? Check
    Flames? Check
    Air Horn? Check
    Wooden Bash Guard? Check

If he strapped a milk crate to the back he could add Cargo Bike to the list.

how much rain are we having lately......never mind.

half day at work today, so wanted to get out in the mild damp day regardless of the weather.

swapped my saddle and decided to visit the town moor, sort of a countryside within a city place, popular with joggers and cows and the like, but also the site for the annual huge hoppings fair comes once a year.....currently sat idle due to the boggy ground.

moonlander loved it though, climbed the steep cow hills and took some nice shots, and re tracing my route through town back to the quayside, the tall ship training vessel was on its way out to sea...

been enjoying the bike along with beers and food and a generally nice relaxing weekend off work for a change.

managed to drag my drinking partner out for a ride in the rain today!

usual 15 mile loop along the quayside in showers, then a diversion back to the hoppings fair, that is now a complete mudbath....sadly the security stopped me riding the moonlander around, so i stopped for a sausage and fresh donuts!

Well that was interesting, 32x20 is not a good urban gear but only about 2mph slower than my road bike.

Conversation with a guy on a road at the lights

"Don't you get a lot of drag with those tyres?"

"No I pump them up really hard, say 15psi and they roll fine"

    "15? Don't you mean 115?"

    "No 15"

    And a picture:

well, after yesterdays flood adventures i decided to spend a little time today going to parts of my local area to see what damage was done.

debris was everywhere, abandoned cars, mudslides and things like that, no water about though...

some tarmac paths were unridable, check this out, usually its a dusty track, the moonlander would cruise along, but today i almost ended on my ass!

wasnt expecting that amount of mud, but couldnt really turn back without ruining the ride.

A mile out of the city you have a really nice flowy trail and bonebreaking rock gardens!

Well winter has hit full force pretty much. So I haven't been taking many urban shots. These ones I kinda consider the rejects. Not up to even my notoriously low standards. So I can understand if you negative rep me.

    @keski:

Great photos. it looks like you have a necro. pug? i have one as well, and if my eyes are working correctly it looks like some of your photos have a larry up front and some have a bud up front. if this is accurate, how do you notice the difference on non snow riding? i am heavily considering this as my next upgrade(buying a bud for front duty.) is it that much more cushion? what major benefits have you noticed? well worth the upgrade? less prone to pinch flats?

i dont mind rollling resistance, i am looking for some more grip and less pinch flat prone + MORE cushion(not that i need more, its more a want really.) or maybe im still a big newbie and asking too much

p.s. and is your bud mounted on a rolling darryl or clownshoe?

Thank you for your compliment of my mediocre cell phone photography. I will point out every photo in this thread is no more than a 15 min bike ride from my front door. A plethora of material.

Your eyes do not deceive you Fat Bike Newbius. I as well rank among the Newbius.

The Bud is mounted on a Clownshoe. I've only had it a week or so. I haven't had the chance the do much serious non-snow offroading with it. 3 days of rain and a flash freeze left roots and rocks coated with ice. We now have 5-10cm's of snow coating the ice.

The Bud is noticeably slower rolling. As for cushioning. I would yes it has better cushioning. But I think part of what I am feeling is the fact the Bud/Clownshoe set-up is a larger diameter. So it rolls over top of stuff even more so than the 3.8 larry.

I've never run the Bud on the Darryl rim. Others have and may comment if they wish it so.

I would personally give up some of the traction for lower rolling resistence.

Ok. I've visited once. Gazed upon Lake Monona from Monona Terrace. I'm big on gazing. I'm sure I saw Lake Mendota too.

U.P.? Upper Peninsula? Nope. Would like to visit it. A couple of my vids are from the Sibley Peninsula though.

Uh, fat bike with eating disorder hauling recyclables Nof60

Hi All: Yes, it is only a 1.9 Studded Nokian townie cargo bike, I guess it is undernourshed, no fat on it, hauling the recyclables+compost home from work. -15C. Right downtown by Yukon River. No other big town for 1500km... It would like to be a 14-16inch Pugsley with a Rohloff, or maybe a Fat Back with Rocker Drop-outs + a Rohloff, so don't tell it that it's not a Fat Bike, its' feelings might get hurt....

In sub-urban area's people want to ride quad bikes, but they have no place for it, the result is an indoor Quad area, exceptional open for mountainbikers!
