    Fat Snacks
Snacks with lots of calories that don't freeze rock hard? I really like Payday candy bars, but I'd have to keep them in my shorts to keep them from turning to concrete.

I make my own bars for riding. Cereal, almonds, raisins chocolate chips, peanut butter and maple
    syrup.
I haven't had them freeze up on me yet.

Google Mike Curiak cookie dough recipe. I haven't tried it yet but here it is good and packed with a crazy amount of calories.

2 cups of cereal. I use 1 of Nature's Path Organic Smart Bran and 1 of Nature's Path Flax Plus Flakes.
    2 Cups of rolled oats
1/2 cup of sliced raw almonds
    1/2 cup of raisins
    1/2 chocolate chips
Mix all this in a bowl.
Pour 1 cup of maple syrup and 1 1/4 cups of peanut butter into a saucepan and melt together over medium heat. Pour this into the bowl with other ingredients and mix well.
Pour into casserole dish and flatten with a spatula or something flat. Press hard.
After it cools, cut into squares. I wrap them in foil to make them portable.

 thanks for that, sounds a bit healthy without all the butter in the other recipe as i'm not a endurance rider and need to watch the levels.:D

I have used something very similar to Curiak's cookie dough recipe on very long rides without trouble. Essentially I did an oatmeal choc chip mix and added a bunch of crap like more oil, choc chips, caramel chips, coconut, etc.

That's one way to avoid having to share your food with other riders! :D

Trader Joe’s smoked herring filets in oil. Just splash them with a shot of vodka before eating.

Smoked oysters were pretty traditional for ski trips for me. But on the bike I'd also have some chain lube!

I've found that quality natural syrups cook better than the cheaper ones like Log Cabin or Mrs Butterworth's. The cheap ones get a burnt flavor while the natural syrups don't. I also recently started using Trader Joe's creamy peanut butter. It pours out of the jar and melts nice. I've used Skippy Natural with honey and it works really well also.
