    Fat Bike Triathlon

Has anybody out there done a triathlon with a fat bike? I had fun yesterday doing the Saratoga Springs Triathlon with my fat bike. Yeah, I didn't turn in the fastest bike time, but I figure I won my category, bikes with 5" tires. OK that isn't an official category but I'm claiming it anyway.

I'm thinking we should make a new triathlon where you have to use the fat bike as a kick board, then ride the fat bike, and then do a hike-a-bike with the fat bike.

Anyway here is my blog entry for the fat bike triathlon: The South Pole Epic: Saratoga Springs Triathlon ... on a Fat Bike

The last three weeks I have entered a triathlon, then a 100 mile off road race, and then a SS conversion for SSUSA yesterday. Quite a potpourri of races I figure. I was most comfortable in the 100 miler. SS, running, and swimming I do about every 5 years and then I remember why I waited 5 years to try them again. I did manage slightly better than a 20 average on the bike split of the tri, good enough for 18th out of 300, despite throwing up 4 times from inhaling the lake water. My buddy won the tri and lent me aero bars and helmet in the race so that I could be as condescending as possible to the multi sporters out there.

I must say, I am on a 9zero7 186mm prototype. I am not sure the new 190 frames will be capable of such heroics.
I proudly ride for these guys.

    My blog.

Wow, I would have to work real hard to get that kind of speed out of Bud and Lou tires at 8 psi.

    Fat Bike Triathlon

As long as you're in it for the fun, and not the win, why not. But...you'll never win a tri with a fatty.

That last picture is just wrong. How are you suppose to bike on snow or sand with smooth skinny tires? ;-)
