Well if you've got sponsors whose funding/products allow you to enjoy such an adventure, why not give them a plug?

No not at all, just a little bit of fresh on top of well packed (at least near the trailhead). Just soft enough to make traction slightly interesting on the steep bits with stock BFLs.

Was Alpha/Crystal in good shape? Muir was absolutely ideal. I tried Greenbush on Friday, but it was so deep and sof that I couldn't go 5 feet, even with Clown Shoes and a Nate/Bud combo. I imagine Greenbush is packed down by now.

Didn't get that much snow, so it's packed and very grippy. Made for very nice riding. Shame most of the Crystal trails are essentially gone due to the work going on.

We finally got our 1st snow here in Pittsville, Pennsyltuckey!

This was the first time I had to engage the 4 wheel drive (on my truck) all the way to the trail head. I couldn't have hoped for a better 1st snow ride. Virgin snow almost all the way around my usual loop. What a blast!

Last day of the year, so are we locking down this 2012 thread and starting a new one for 2013?

I loved that I was finally able to ride my fat bike in the snow (twice!) this weekend. I also loved that my wife loved her new fat bike. These were taken at the Frederick Watershed (in Maryland) from the last couple of days.

2012 was awesome, but I'm looking forward to 2013! Have a great New Year everyone!

hike a bike yesterday up Mt. MacIntyre just outside of Whitehorse, Yukon

One of my favourite climbs /descents since getting out of the -30c blues. Snow was a little soft yet got better as i climbed to higher elevations. Stunning views and a wickedly fast ride back down. GoPro next time for sure

Guess which state this is, w/o looking in my profile info...

3 or 4 psi seemed to be the sweet spot on this snowmobile hard pack.

    Look at that floatation!

I love the smell of 2 stroke exhaust...NOT!

All the beautiful, powdery snow turned to slush.

Coming next week: interesting times as the temperatures will drop well below zero degrees celsius...

EDIT I had to laminate a rear fender too. It's quite hideous, but it should do its job

My ride from Saturday, December 29. Wishing I had my video camera along, after my ride some Amish kids wanted to try out the Pugsley and I watched as one started riding wheelies up and down the trail.

Awesome. Where do they do fat bike cross, or were you racing against real cross bike?

The race was against real cross bikes and was held in South Park, PA. It was a pretty flat course, so the climbing deficit didn't hurt too much. I had everyone cheering for me, and I embarrassed a lot of faster guys. Heck, I took 8 beer feeds and it was still my best 3/4 finish of the season!

New Year's Eve and Day Rides

We had blue skies, low temperatures, and firm snow on New Year's Eve, so I hit the trails:
    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tassava/8330505983/" title="Like Salsa Cycles says, &quot;Where we're going we don't need roads.&quot; Snowmobile tracks are nice, though. #4mph4ever #crushsnow #fatbike #newyearsevecaloriehole by Tassava, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8496/8330505983_c297ea41e5.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Like Salsa Cycles says, &quot;Where we're going we don't need roads.&quot; Snowmobile tracks are nice, though. #4mph4ever #crushsnow #fatbike #newyearsevecaloriehole"></a>

On New Year's Day, I went further, in worse conditions, but still had a blast:
