All the Surly fatbikes going from 25.4mm to 31.8mm bars

I'm not sure when this happened, but I just noticed it when I was looking up what my old handlebar was. I'm getting wider bars for my Necro and I noticed that Salsa doesn't make 25.4 bars anymore. Is that probably why Surly went 31.8 on everything? Should I just get 31.8's? I think I already know the answer to that, there's like not many 27.2 bars anymore.

that has been the direction of the industry.. always establishing new standards for trivial incremental "improvements"..

    ppl need to work eh?

can't wait for the 36.4mm standard to take hold

    I think you mean 35mm.

Your favourite bars just got bigger, longer and lighter, Go figure? The magic of 35, believe the hype. Increasing the bar diameter to 35 allows us to shave material from the bar resulting in a dramatic reduction in overall weight while retaining the proven stiffness and performance Race Face bars are known for. NEW Superlow 10mm rise, slam that cockpit. Get flatbar cockpit height with the comfort and good looks of a riser bar. 760mm full width for increased control without sacrificing weight.
So much innovation packed into that description!

never stop innovating! exciting times for the industry.

When will bikes stop being 2 wheels and a chain!?! blow our minds!

Ummm...27.2 is a seat post diameter. Mountain handlebar clamp diameter for a long time was 25.4, and yes, I think you're right that Salsa no longer produces bars in that size. The only bar that Surly currently offers comes only in 25.4, and there are still a bunch of others in that size on the market.

Ooops, yeah you're right, I confused the two. Will go back and edit my comment. But in any event, all the Salsa bars on the Surly complete bikes are now 31.8. I'm looking for just a wide flat bar, 720mm or so, not like an Open Bar or anything.

I'm happy everyone is going larger with handlebars. You can usually pick up the smaller ones & stems for cheap!
I got an easton carbon bar for $50 because it was the older 25.4

    I would hope so, it's 2013.

Who remembers specialized stumpjumpers with Mag-21s and canti-brakes? Or how about the break-through "every-man's fork" with casted lowers, the RS Indy? 150mm stems didn't flex at all! Hell, these bikes probably had the least amount of travel in the form of front shocks, in every other direction they probably gave inches...
