Just picked this up for my son.

Just had this delivered today for my son.

Originally I was going to buy my daughter a new bike, but ultimately decided that I would buy my son a new bike and hand down his 26" to her. She's never been off road and I'd hate to spend $7-800 and have her hate riding off road.

I bought all the parts myself on various sites and I'm going to have my LBS build it. Right now I'm sitting at about $1300 minus a saddle and the bike shop is doing the labor free. A new 1 star build is $1500 and I've been able to get some better quality stuff than would be on the 1 star.

    Frame: XS EMD 9
Fork: Manitou Tower Comp 15mm thru axle 100mm travel
    Headset: Cane Creek 40
Wheels: WTB Frequency i19 TCS with XT hubs
    Drivetrain: X7 1X10
    Cassette: SRAM PG-1030 11-36T
Crank: Race Face Evolve 170mm with 32T NW
    Brakes: Hayes Stroker Ryde 180mm/160mm
    Stem: Truvativ Hussfelt 40mm 0DEG
Bars: Chinese Carbon 680mm flat bar
    Grips: Race Face lock on
    Seat Post: Brand X Carbon
    Seat: TBD
    Pedals: Magnesium Flats

I'm not sure what to do about a saddle, we couldn't be more different size wise. I'm a 380# Super Clyde and he's 5'2" and weighs 110# I'm also not sure about tires. The wheels are tubeless ready so I'm pretty sure I'm going to run him tubeless. That's about everything, I could have picked a few things differently to save a little weight, but my goal was to keep it under $1500. Pics to follow once it's all put together. It may be a while though, the RD is coming from Taiwan.

A couple pics of parts that have come in.

Handle bar came today, wheels are due in Monday, stem is also on the way. RD is going to be the hold up, there's no telling when it will get here from Taiwan.

Do you have a scale? Can you post weights of the build? Always interesting to know what parts are coming in on the scale.

Sorry, no scale. I'm just going to weigh it when it's all put together.

Here's the finished product. I still need to have a shop shorten the rear brake line and put the soft spring in the fork. Other than that I'm happy with the way it turned out. Now we just have to wait for the trails to dry out. The weather is calling for rain almost every day for the next week.

Very nice build! My oldest is about the same length but he is still on a 24". Please let me know how the 29" works out in the wild. I hope your trails dry a bit soon, it's too bad to have such a nice bike sitting there waiting.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Still no off road riding, but we did ride 10 miles on a rail trail Friday. The bike fits him well, no fit complaints, with room to grow in the seat post, plus a little bit of room on the steerer to go up. I want to take him out Saturday, but we'll see how the weather holds up.
