    Grip for small hands...

    Hi
I want to get rid of grip-shift shifter on my son's and daughter's bikes. Probably with this

    http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-Acera-...rigger+shifter

I will need some grip as well but I can't find small ones for children.

Is it possible to buy regular lock-on grip and just cut them the size I want?

odi lock on grips come in mini widths. would probably have to trim the flange for the shifters.

sinz also has mini non lock-on grips

My daughter picked out some ODI mushroom grips at the LBS, I cut about 1.5" out of the middle and glued them on, those look and work great.

If the lock-ons you want have locks on both ends this approach might work with the low-torque of a kid's hand grip and you could even look into bonding the base plastic cut faces together with JB weld. Or make the center cuts at a 45 degree angle so they are kind of keyed together.

I did the same on both of my daughters bikes. The M310 shifter has been a huge help with shifting. One of my criteria was a 7 speed drivetrain just for this reason. It's near impossible to find a 6 speed trigger shifter. As far as grips go, ESI is a great choice. They come in many colors, are under $20, don't slip at all, and don't have a grip pattern. I got them their color of choice, then cut about a third off of the grip.
