is it a good idea to change a 3-8 drivetrain to a 1-8??

im thinking of doing the switch and was wondering if I would have enough gears to get uphill, also is it worth it? I do a lot of all mountain and dirt jumps. any opinions or thoughts would be great! thanks in advance

    Easy answer.
Run your normal rides for a week or so without changing gear at the front if you cant then 1x8 is no good for you.
1x9 or 1x10 gives you additional gears but will cost.
You could go 2x8 and ditch the big ring/change it for a lightweight bash.

Try and figure out what gears you currently use and what you can live without and that will answer your question
