Advice needed - potential craigs list double buy

I picked up a nice girls 24inch hotrock 7 speed last night off CL for $100, and the guy also had an almost unused girls 24inch giant mtx 225 rigid for $75. He said since I bought the hotrock, I could have the giant for $50. I told him I would think about it.

I have a 7yo daughter that will get the hotrock next year. I have 5 yo son who is ready for a 20". So, I don't really need 2 girls 24" bikes, but I was thinking about buying the giant, working on it for a couple years, repainting it orange (my sons favorite color), and making a boys bike for down the road 3 years?

$50 seems like too good price to pass up for a relatively light 21 speed 24inch bike. What do you think?

I had a Giant mtx225 for my son when he was ready for a 24". I bought it for about the same price I think, and he rode the crap out of it for a few years, before we handed it down to my middle son. It was a great bike, kind of a boys/girls style frame, and I think with some paint and/or decals you could easily make it look more boyish. $50 is hard to beat for any name brand bike, you will get your money back in a few years. I'm pretty sure I sold mine for about what I paid.

I agree - $50 is not that much. I'd go for it. At least you can turn it over again for the same amount.

And even if you give it away it's $50 for a two year rental? Get it man.
