A buddy and I are experienced double track trail cyclists in Santa Clara County. We're planning our first MTB trip to Tahoe, including mandatory evening refreshments at 5050 Brewing in Truckee. Steepness is great (we've regularly done 35 milers in Henry Coe), but we're not technical, and I have an annoying difficulty keeping my balance on banked single track.

Any pointers for long day rides in the northern Tahoe area, with great views and less technical trails?

Rumoured to be this Saturday. 6:00AM Hunting Hollow entrance. $6 parking fee. 50 miles, 12,000+ accumulated vertical footies. Bring fitness, awareness, water, FOOD, spares, water filtration devices, reliable bicycle lighting system. Only the serious adventurer need apply, as this is NOT a supported ride, and Henry Coe is a b¡tch of a place to realise halfway through the ride that you aren’t cut out for it. Plymmer and I are for sure in… I’d expect to see Ratpick, El Hombre, and Mboldt (Marco proved himself when we did this ride together a couple weekends ago when the average temperature throughout the ride was 95°F—high of 117°F!!!):

My wife and I are moving down to Sacramento area after I accepted a job downtown. We are currently set to rent a place in East Sac. My wife is interviewing for jobs and there is the possibility of Rocklin.

We're considering benefits of living in Rocklin or Sacramento. Obviously, living in Rocklin would get us close to Auburn, which would great for mtb rides. We have a three year old and are considering buying in a year or two. Schools will be a major consideration when we buy.

Anyone know what the commute is like from Sac to Rocklin or vice versa?

Thanks

I am visiting my dad in Lincoln. With the weather cool for the next couple of days I figure it is the time to hit up Auburn. Last time I was here a local was mentioning that they might start requiring a parking pass in Auburn. Did that ever happen?

I have ridden Forresthill Divide, Connector, Manazanita, Clementine, and Culvert. Thinking of doing one longer 20 or so mile loop. What would be your suggestion?

I am up from Orange County staying in Lincoln for a few weeks and going to hit up Tahoe a couple of times. I did Mt. Rose/Flume last year and it was awesome. Plan to do it again, plus another trail or two.

Anyhow, a buddy from SoCal wants to come up a for a week and ride Tahoe and the surrounding areas. What is a good cheap lodging for him and his son in Tahoe?

What other trail(s) besides the Flume? We are more XC riders and probably intermediate skill level.

I've ridden the Lakes Basin area, but I'm a bit taken back about what the best route would be.

Here's what we'd like to do: start in Dville take the first shuttle to packer saddle, hit the network of trails around Elwell and descend Elwell at least a good portion of the way to Graeagle, return back up and head over to Mills Peak, descend into town, catch the 430 shuttle back up to Round Lake, and finish with Downieville downhill.

Given the fact that we probably have a lot of time to kill between drop off at packer saddle and 4:30 pm, we'd be up for exploring some of the jeep roads + other trails in the area, extra points for chunk!

Hello Peeps!
I have some non-mtbr type friends in town that have bikes in tow, and are heading up to Oregon after passign through. Their plan is to stop off to camp in Lassen/Sisikyou area just south of the CA/OR border.
Someone asked if I knew of good fishing in the area, and yeah, I knew Hat Creek, Eagle Lake, etc. all of which are awesome spots to catch nice trout, but what I don't know is where to ride AND fish.
Does anyone know a specific ride in the far northeast corner of CA that is accessible by mtb and good for fishing.? My knowledge of that particular area is nil when combining these things together in that coner of the state..
If anyone has experienced a campsite, near a trailhead that services a watershed, by all means let me know.. Though it is serious bitterweetness that these guys are talking trout/riding/camping/tripping while I work all day, I'll oblige and help a brudda out.. I suppose..

PS. I know there is another fish/ride thread some-where on mtbr, but I could not find one that applied to this specific area. Thanks!
