My summer work schedule is about to adjust to where I have a 2 1/2 hour ride window from 3-5:30p...

My summer work schedule is about to adjust to where I have a 2 1/2 hour ride window from 3-5:30p each Wed. I try and stay conditioned for the heat and enjoy riding the empty popular south mountain trails. Y'day I was able to kick off my 3pm ride in style. 101º at the start, but what route should I do?

I opted to put the hurt on myself & started at the Ranger TH. What ensued was a tough, but rewarding HAB cross-training affair. Mtn-rider, this route is for YOU!! In a nutshell: Take Ranger to Los Lomitas to Kiwanis up to Telegraph pass & down to Desert Foothills TH. Take the road to the trails at the base of the Pyramid trail, then connect up to the Gila Valley trail, up & over the saddle then Bursera from W->E. Connect to Pyramid trail & begin the switchback assault, i.e. HAB up to National at post #33. Finally head west on Natty & finish with a downhill run on Ranger.

If you really dislike HAB, this route is NOT for you. Be prepared to push. With that said, I really enjoyed the route. Fantastic views almost the entire way. It also appears that some trail work has been done on sections of the Gila Valley trail & Bursera. Mostly just fixing blown out turns & poor drainages. I really appreciated the work.

Here's a view from Bursera looking towards Pyramid

From SoMo - Punisher

At least it was nice and clear out! *wink*

So break out the X-Alp Enduro shoes for this one, fill that 100oz bladder with ice and get some!!

So I take nearly a year off from riding to move to Flag with a new job opportunity. I've been working a ton and trying to meet new people and get the kids all settled in. So, I'm feeling pretty good, been working out and running and even got a couple rides in. So, I call a buddy and say lets go riding Saturday. Sure enough he's all for it. We rode all day and hit everything we wanted to hit on elden and at about 3 mph as I was coming to a stop, I hit a rock, root or something and it knocked me over. Literally, I was coming to a stop to talk with a friend! Well, pictures can say more than words sometimes so here's one a week after surgery...
Tore my triceps tendon and muscle from my elbow and broke a piece of bone off my elbow!! Fully padded from head to toe! I didn't even bang a single body part on anything! It was just they way I caught myself! When it's your time, it's your time lol. This is all just for sympathy and pity lol. I'm feeling a little bummed haha.
