USA Cyling kills Super-D in favor of enduro

Not that anyone should give a rat's ass about USA Cycling, but FWIW:

What's the difference between super D and enduro?
Switzerland doesn't need a bike park, Switzerland is a bike park.

Super D is a single run format with less technical courses.

Super D rules vary, but they're typically done on a course that's designed to be technical enough that a XC bike wouldn't excel, and long and pedal-ly enough (ex. climbs) that a DH bike wouldn't excel. Basically, they're designed to place a demand on bikes that can do it all, typical FS trail or AM bikes.

Enduro has multiple timed long DH stages in a day, where they expect you to get to the start area of the next stage within a certain time limit with a significant amount of riding (uphill) involved. Some Enduro events have enough entrants and stages to be split across multiple days. These races typically warrant a bike that's a bit more DH oriented than those that would excel at Super D.

The strategy in Enduro seems to be more about preparation for overall smooth and consistent riding across stages, taking a relatively easy pace on the transitions, and giving it all on the final stage. In Super D, you'd pace yourself only enough for how long the race takes; it's like racing for some non-sprinty Strava KOMs that aren't all DH.

Biggest difference is you usually have a decent climb that's part of the timed event in super D. In enduro there might be some small uphill, but it's pretty much a DH blast in the timed areas.

Super D died in 2004, the year DH was banned at Snow Summit. From then on, Super D was run on XC race day on the XC courses. I parked the coil 6 inch bike and picked up a 4" air set up.

And yet they still lump enduro in with the XC nationals. Idiots.
