The Rivers Edge Mountain Bike Marathon benefitting Alpha-1
Date: August 25, 2012
Time: 9:00 AM
Distance: 50 Miles
The Rivers Edge Mountain Bike Marathon is the second race in the Turn & Burn series and will take place in the beautiful Uwharrie National Forest. The race will consist of five laps around a 10 mile loop of the Wood Run Trail System. These are awesome single track trails, which have recently been reworked and had several new extensions added. The course will be run in the clockwise direction. We plan to fire up the grill after the race and cook hot dogs and hamburgers and have many great sides including pasta salad, slaw, beans, all of the fixins’ and ice cold beer!
Don’t forget about…
The Turn & Burn Race Series: This is a three race endurance series, where riders accrue points in certain categories and have a chance to win some cash!
Battle of the Carolina’s: The area of either North or South Carolina that has the fastest mountain bikers will be awarded a trophy that will be displayed in a local bike shop, until the following year!

We went out Thursday to prep the course for the race and rode a couple laps....man that place is awesome!! Using the Whitetail trail ads more singletrack to the course and makes the route so much fun. When riding the course in the clockwise direction, the last descent, before it pops back out on the fire road that leads to the campground, is so unbelievably fast.
The course is partially marked so if you haven’t ridden the trail, go check in out. The race will start in the Wood Run camping area and proceed onto Keyauwee, the loop to the left. Once you cross the fire road that intersects the two trails, where it switches from Keyauwee to Supertree, you’ll ride up the gravel road hill and turn right onto Whitetail. The turn onto Whitetail is currently marked with a green arrow.
Check out the link for a map of the course
The last piece of trail you ride is the new super fun trail that runs parallel with the gravel road that leads to Wood Run Camp. You'll ride it down and take the gravel road back to the finish. We are actually going to set up the finish line and stage the event in the field on the right, before you reach the turn around area at Wood Run Camp.
Looking forward to a great event!!
how is that set up? The Wood Run Campground is TINY, and with that one logging road up to it, do they close that road???
We are actually planning to stage the event in the field on the right before Wood Run Campground. We've been up a couple times and cleaned the field so its ready to role. We will also be allowing people to park along the road, where there's room to pull completely off the road. The good thing about the parking along the road is its in the shade all day.
