Our chip timing system allows us to tweak the format of the Red River Riot a bit AND allow us to keep track of interim results throughout the day. Here's the sketch for what we have in mind, let me know if I'm off base.
We are just using an Open category. Riders can determine during the day how far they do or do not want to ride.
3 loops instead of two. Riders who complete loop 1 only will do a total of 35ish miles. Riders who complete loops 1 and 2 will do a total of 70ish miles. Riders who complete all 3 loops will do a total of 128ish miles.
Each loop ends at the staging area so riders can reload from their vehicles or from what we have available in staging. Riders will hit the timing loop upon completion of the lap for a split time and roll over it again on exit for the next loop. This will give us a transition time in between loops and also let us know who is out on the course and on which loop.
Loop 1 will be an "easy" but scenic loop (no Windmill Hill). A great warm up for the rest of the day and a fantastic intro to gravel grinders and/or longer rides for beginners.
Loop 2 will be the classic Red River Riot terrain that goes by Bar H and up Windmill Hill. If you think you are a beginner but still want the Windmill Hill experience, you should start training now.
Loop 3 will be our traditional Puppy Dawg Corner/Cow Valley route and will also go up Windmill Hill. This is the only loop where an aid station will be available. The other loops are close enough to staging/start/finish.
We will do t-shirts for a limited number of riders TBD. I doubt we will be cooking for this one but we will probably provide grills and encourage folks to bring their own so that there will be plenty of food around.
More TBD
