    recovery after a 200?

    My friend did the Dirty Kanza about a week ago (just under 15 hours), he's been on a couple of easy-ish 2-3 hour rides, and doesn't feel like his legs are back at all yet. We've got a mtb race in a week, about 22 miles and 4800' of climbing. I have lots of good advice for him about training for shorter races, but I know nothing about recovering from long races. What should he be doing with a week to go before this race?

    All easy riding, nothing over 1.5 hours and no pressing the effort. Sometimes easy rides aren't as easy as riders claim. Also, take an ice bath, yes ice. Sit in as cold as you can stand water for about 10 to 15 minutes. A massage would probably help, as well. In about 3 or 4 days he should be better.

    I take 2 days off and then a few days of EASY 1.5 hour road rides.

    Agree with the above. Tip-toe back into it. All of a sudden you'll be on a ride and realize "Hey, I've got juice, again!".

    For me with mtb 100s, it's about a full week before I'm really ready to put the whip to it, but I also STRONGLY believe that doing little or nothing is not the answer.
