    It depends on the situation.

In races where I might have a large enough lead, I might change bibs half way thru. In races where the running is tight, I will run the entire race on the same bibs and make sure to apply copious amounts of chamois butter.

My last 24 hour event of 2005 in Japan the weather was cold and wet. I was warm while riding and while in my current shorts. So, I just kept them on as not to get chilled after stopping to change..

I 90% of cases I would say people will change out shorts atleast once.

    Just my 2 cents.

I should mention that I compete as a solo rider.

No, I don't mean the aduly undergarments... It's depends on the conditions. During a dry race, I probably won't change shorts at all. If it rains the entire 24 hours (e.g., 2005 worlds), then I would probably change as many as 3 times. There are too many variables to have a set rule.

I haven't changed my chamois since the 2000 24 hour worlds.
No set plan, but I have changed out my shorts in the dawn hours when the night was moist. I don't think I have ever changed them in a 12 hour race.

mostly depends on weather (rain) but i cant ever remember changing shorts in a 12 hour.

i rarely change other articles. A nice fresh pair of socks does sometimes feel awesome though!

Same boat here....depends. I don't change in a 12 hour and usually only change once or twice during 24. Chamois cream or Bag Balm, what ever your preference, load it up and keep riding.

    ....

I'll agree that if conditions are dry, I haven't changed my shorts in any 24hr races...if it gets cold enough out, I'll throw another pair on over top. For me, fresh socks(and shoes, sometimes) and even a helmet with dry pads can make things nicer.
