Do you have a favorite motivational quote that you may have to dig up 8, 10 or 12 hrs into a long event?
A couple of my favorites:
"whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're probably right"
"you are better than you think you are, and you can do more than you think you can", this one may be familiar as it has been shared at the Leadville pre-race meeting.
"Pain is temporary, quitting is forever"
you only have _______ more hours of riding... :)
Shut the f*ck up and race your bike.
Edit: 1,000th post. Winning.
Most of my favorite ones are adventure based, or help me when i plan something that is way over my head.
“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”~Andre Gide
“I see my path, but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it.”~Rosalia de Castro
"Who dares nothing, need hope for nothing."~Johann Friedrich Von Schiller
And my favorite quote for all of life's journeys........
“An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered.”~GK Chesterton

"Discipline is doing something that you hate like you love it."
I really like this as it ties closely into our world of endurance racing. I apologize it is sexist but it doesn't matter who you are it applies to all of us:
The Man Who Thinks He Can
If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't!
If you'd like to win, but think you can't,
It's almost certain that you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a person's will;
It's all in the state of mind!
If you think you're outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself
before you can win the prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the strongest or fastest man;
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can!
Its all downhill now except for the uphills.
1) F#@* that. I'm finishing. (muttered to myself every time I see a hill I think I can't climb.)
2) Adversity is a gift (first read on this board somewhere).
I've been playing mind games with myself over this quote - "will not or can not?"
Is it that I will not want to suffer more or that I can not suffer more?
I will not override my tempation for sweets or that I can not live without them?
I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself

I have 2 custom stem caps that I had created at purelycustom.com. One says "pain is just weakness leaving the body." The other says "be the pig" -- short for "When it comes to breakfast, the chicken contributes. The pig is committed. Be the pig." I also like "Training hard sucks. But not as much as sucking sucks." 16 hours into a 24 solo a friend told me "if this is hard for you, imagine how much harder it is for all those other chumps out here." 20 hours into that same race she told me "it sounds like you are experiencing a bad case of being a whiny little b!tch. Let me prescribe you a heavy dose of man the f@ck up!"
I like "be the pig"!

I don't race on the road anymore, but I am still a fan of road racing. My favorite motivational quotes are from one of the all-time great, mostly unsung, hard men, Jens Voight.
"Shut up body and do what I tell you."
"Everybody has to suffer, suffer, suffer until they've had enough."
And even though I don't- "I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel."
I also really like an old Japanese proverb: "We take our suffering and burn it as fuel for our journey."
"Do, or not do...there is no 'try'..." - Master Yoda
"The rhetoric means nothing" - 2011 NBA Finals
“When you can’t lean on no one else that’s when you find yourself” Words from the song Mountains played by Lonestar
“This is what you came for” Scott Jurek Ultra Running Legend
“You don’t know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have” Scott Jurek Ultra Running Legend also my fav motivational quote
"of course you hurt, it's supposed to hurt. so keep pedalling"
Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy...Nichiren
I've collected a few; believe it or not, I even wrote a few of them myself!
Some of these are from roadies, some are just lessons learned and things i try to keep in mind to keep me grounded in the fact that I'm just a weekend warrior. :) Enjoy and share.
Thats funny, a friend had brought that up today but changed it to "just keep Spinning" I called him Dory the rest of the day.
