Not necessarily a quote, more of a technique...

I imagine that the riders ahead of me are the prey and/or that the riders behind me are hunting me. Or that I'm escaping an invading army or something. Whatever it takes to stir up a primal life-or-death type of mentality. Sometimes it's the only way to trick your mind into letting your legs go harder.

    Train hard, race easy!

(Before the race you went out ride in the rain, in the cold and
the dark at night. These will make you confident to finish the race.)

Those that say it can't be done should get out of the way of those that are doing it.

If you ain't first you're last.
Kidding aside had a coach who drilled giving 110% into us. So when I have to start digging I think about giving %110. If you can maximize that mental side you can push a lot farther on the physical side.

Kinda cheesy, but I've always liked this YouTube video from Versus. I find it a little motivating...at least for me anyway.

Small ring in front makes it easier. Small ring in back makes it harder. That blows my mind.

Looking at the top tube of my Niner - Pedal Damnit! A few of the oldies but goodies - 'You're the only one that cares if you quit. Can you live with that?' and 'Who put you on the God Damn thing in the first place?'

If there was ever a perfect song for the most painful moments on a bike, it's Steve Vai's "Down Deep Into the Pain". I keep this song going in my head, it helps.
