    Hydration Strategy For Shenandoah 100

Hi. I am trying out Carbo Rocket 333 for this race. Last year I did bottles with the Gatorade G2 packets for hydration and the Gatorade shakes for food and did pretty good considering the mud--right at 10 hours. My question is that the carbo rocket has a ton of powder per bottle, so I am wondering if most people leave bottles with the solution already mixed with their drop bags, bottles with dry powder in them, powder separate in bags, or use a camel bak. Thanks for any suggestions.

    This. Always.

Too busy racing during the race to take time out for food prep duties.

    Have a great race!

That doesn't work too well with some powders if it's a scorching hot day and your bottle sits out in the sun for 6 hours before you get to it.

edit: Here's hoping for dry conditions this year. The Jet9RDO I was on had problems last year and I ended up dingle-speed for most of the race. This year is SS so those climbs are going to hurt.

Well, it's always worked for me, including one 100 miler that ended at 97 degrees in the shade (never need to do that again).

Either put them in a cheapo cooler, or cover them.

Thanks. I think that I will probably have my first drop bag with bottles filled and the other ones with bottles filled with only powder and that way I can just add cool water. Should only add two minutes at the aid station or so.

1 more dumb question. I am planning on three bottles per drop bag, do you know if the 24oz bottles will fit or should I go with 20 oz?

When I did it, I was using Infinit. What I did was vacuum seal the scoops I needed, and then carried them with me to cover the checkpoints between my drops. I put some in the drop bag at 2/6 that way I passed it twice, and the other one I think at 5 (Wherever you have to pick up your lights). The I just carried enough on me to get me through the others. I used a Jandd frame bag on my Fuel EX, and it worked perfectly, plus gives you some extra storage if needed.
