flash photography at night racing? and poll.

I have been talking to a sports photographer who told me how he decided not to use a flash at a recent event because he was worried that it might cause an accident.

    IMO a valid point.

But I really admire some night shots with flash, and personally don't mind being flashed while racing.

I suggested perhaps some track side warning that you were approaching the camera with flash.

Interested in peoples opinions and suggestions.

I don't know about at night specifically, but during the day many photographers set up the flash(es) off to the side so it doesn't shine in the riders' faces. I imagine that at 24 hour events (like Nationals, World events, etc) they must use flash to get shots of the riders. You could look into the coverage of past events and see what they are doing?
