    Dakota 5-0 prep

Racing only my second endurance mtn bike event.

I raced a multi lap 5 hour a couple years ago. Laps were short so there was not a lot of planning involved with food and what to carry.

I will be riding a Salsa Spearfish. Typically run Schwalbe Racing Ralph's tubliss. Anybody have any feedback on the course and if those will work OK?

Planning on water in my camelback and Perpetuem mixed in a 2 hour bottle. That should get me to the 2nd aid station. Refill and I should get to the end.

    Any advice for a newbie?

I have only ridden in the area once and it was awesome!

That bike and tires are fine (in fact, pretty much darn perfect). It's a pretty smooth course, so I wouldn't worry about a super rugged tire. A camelback and bottle seems a bit much. I usually go with two bottles (I've done it about 5 times) - no problems. If it's super hot, I might go with the camelback. The aid stations are good - so plenty of fruit, cookies etc. I'll only pack some sharkies or something similar.

It's a great race - you'll enjoy it; really nice trails, great vibe. The course is in reverse this year - will be interesting to see what that's like.

Problem with a Spearfish is only 1 bottle mount. Plus I would rather drink out of a camelback.
