    Truth Creaking

    I have a large 2003 Truth.
I am getting quite a bit of creaking from the pivots area.
    I cannot narrow it down.
It is not the bottom bracket. I did remove, clean and re-install my cranks (2003 XTR).
I tightened down the bearings. I thought it helped but it was bad again yesterday.
    Any help?

Could the bearings be cranked down too much?
Could the bearings be going bad (I have only had the bike about 1.5 years)?

It is relatively loud and annoying.
It rides real well but sounds like crap.
It is noticeable to other riders.

I have an ID and my beaings were not rolling to good when they were mounted in the pivots. It turns out that the hard anodizing and the shot peening of the parts made the seats for the bearings smaller. I took some 300 wet/dry and sanded the inside of the seats in the stays and swing arm now they roll smoth. The other problem this caused before I fixed it was the bearings were being squished too much and that let water in through the seals. I took the bearing apart and cleaned and regreased.

Also you would have more problems with your bearings if they were not tightened enough. Then you might get noise from the inner race moving on the bolt.

Did you check your pedals? I have Time pedals and sometimes my cleat rubs and makes a creaking squeaky noise.

Probably not the ano shot peening if this is somthing new after 1.5 years of use. Try removing the seals and cleaning and regreasing the pivot bearings. Also check the shock mounting bolts and grease them.

Strange but true - my seat was the cause of a squeak I could not find. Hope you diagnose it soon. A squeaking bike drives me nuts too.
    Nothing to see here.

Are you running a Romic?, if so, it could be the coil creaking-mine did. Hopefully this isn't it, but check the seat tube at the bottom of the pivot support by the welds, my 03' started creaking after it cracked at that common spot.

    I had mine squeak.

Turned out to be the rear wheel QR. Greased it and it went away. Its a Mavic QR and for some reason its prone to sqeaking. Other QRs I tried never did it.

    Good luck

    Check for cracks

I rode a truth for about 2 years a never had a creak out of it and rode it in all types of terrain and weather. If it turns out not otbe pivots,bb,or were the shock meets frame, shock eyelet bushings. Check the frame a friend of mine is riding a truth and he,s a big guy and his creaked when the frame was cracked. Seat tube area, chain and seat stays are a good place to start.
Good luck hope its a pivot.
