Apparently I have been a good boy this year. Ok... I bought myself an early Christmas present. Man, what an awesome bike. Having only been on one ride, 14 mile loop with 3,800 ft of climbing, this bike feels fast and responsive. After going back and forth between my '10 Evolve and my Orbea Alma 29 (singlespeed), I dedided to pull the trigger on the Enlightenment 29 and build it up light...sub 22lb was my goal. It weighs in at 21.6 lbs with my Crest 29/DT 240 wheelset. Need to get a carbon setback seatpost and that should bring it down a little further. I will give you a better review of the ride and handling characteristics as I get more time on the bike. A big thanks to everyone at Ellsworth, Donald and Dan especially for all there help.
I'm geting one to myself too. It'll begin its life as a singlespeeder. Since is my first 29, if i like it, i mayy convert it on a really light 1x10. What was the weight on the picture? I was getting the frame only, but they put together a package really hard to pass on. Its almost like those wheels are giving them almost free
Beautiful rig Tom.
I may be joining the Ells team soon with an Evolution, just waiting to hear about availability. How is the front end stability? The Evolve and Enlightenment have a steapish HTA at 72.5. Does it feel rock solid?
Well, I have 5 rides in on the Enlightenment. I have to say this bike is very impressive. Final build weight is 21.6 lbs as you see it. This bike climbs like crazy and tears it up on the downhills. This bike is very stiff, but in a good way. The bike accelerates very quickly. I am going to be riding a 12 hour race in a few weeks and will report how the bike worked out. Stay tuned... The Stans wheelset offered a noticeable improvement over the Ellsworth wheels that I ran the first couple of rides. Here is a pic of the final build..
21.6 ?? that is a really nice weight .. Looks like you just change wheels, seat post and setaclamp. That clamp from Ellsworth looked really heavy .. hehe .. assume you went tubeless with those rims, you must to shave like 2 lbs from the first pic
The bike is set up complete with XX. I did change some items and added ti bolts on the Loaded stem. The wheels made a big difference!! Really diggin' this bike.
