    Big Black

    * Rider height weight: H = 6'-03" W = 205-210 lb with gear
    * Main purpose: AM/trail/light freeride. 20 min. road ride to trailhead.
    * Riding terrain conditions: Everything. Geared towards best DH performance with minimal climbing penalty. Most of my buds are lighter, and on lighter bikes.
    * Frame Size & Color: Large 04 Moment / Black
    * Fork: Maverick DUC32. Light & stiff, but have had issues with seals and air spring.
    * Shock: Avalanche Montie, 600 lb spring, custom-valved. Fantastic FR and smoother downhill, not the must supple on really rocky stuff.
    * Brakes: '03 XTR calipers, XT hydro levers, 180mm CTS front caliper adapter. Have had issues with sticky rear pistons, and noisey/grabby up front with adapter. Will probably change at some point.
    * Cranks: '03 XTR, 180mm. Fine, but replacement rings are too expensive.
    * Shifters: LX 9-spd push-pull triggers. No problems.
    * Front Derailleur: XT 760 series BS/TP
    * Rear Derailleur: XTR 950 series long cage, Avid roller-ma-jig. No problems.
    * Pedals: Time
    * Stem: Maverick 105 mm
    * Handlebar: Easton Monkey-Light Aluminum, 1.5" rise.
    * Seatpost: Thompson 27.2 x 410mm, zero offset. Never an issue.

    Future:
    Most of these parts went from an XC Blur to a Heckler, now on the Moment. I just replace anything that breaks or wears out with something a bit stronger, so the bike continues to get heavier. There are a few of my buddies that have to wait for me on the climbs, but I wait for most of them on the descents. I've got lots of FR possibilities near my house, so I plan to get some pads and continue to step it up a bit.

    The only thing that's given me any down-time has been the DUC32. If I continue to have problems I plan to switch to a heavier 150-160 mm single-crown.

    I get a lot of rear pinch flats with tubes. Plan to switch to UST or Stans.

    The Stan's conversion is pretty good. It took a while for the Nevegals to seal up, maybe two weeks completely.

    A word of note...they will feel squirrly w/o a good amount of pressure in them. The tube actually helps support the sidewall and when you remove it, you loose a bit of support. UST tires have thicker sidewalls to combat this, so the best solution really is UST all around. But it's pricey and requires tires and wheels. Big $$$.

    I think I ruined one tire by not keeping the fluid up to date in them. Check them every month or so just to make sure they have some Stan's juice floating around in there.

    Thanks for the tips. I have a buddy that might have some extra Stan's strips, so I may give it a shot with the Blue Groove/Navegal. I'll need to throw a new set of rims on my existing hubs sometime soon, so I may just do that the next time I need tires and go all UST, anyway. I build my own wheels so that's a help.

    Another tip with Stans Ive found this works better with a wider rim which supports the Sidewalls better, most light XC rims are quite narrow.

    Ive just switched to DT Swiss 5.1 rim very nice and Im using DTs rim strip and valve which is way superior to Stans rim strip setup. But I stil use Stans sealant this is a bullet proof setup.

    Also some tires are better Stans than others
    Just riding a muddy trail. . ..

    The DT 5.1 at $70 and another $40 for the tubeless kit ends up being pretty pricey. Those or the Mavic XM 819 are probably good, but I'll have to see if Sun or somebody makes a more reasonably priced option that works well with UST tires. With UST, I shouldn't need sealant (or very little), since I don't ride thorns. At 200 lb in rocky terrain, pinch flats are my main issue.

    Got rid of the Joker and got a Moment (can only afford one bike in addition to my fixie commuter), wanted more trailbike and definitely wanted ICT. Loved the Joker, it rode really well, but my riding preferences have changed some towards trailbiking. Have done two three hour rides so far, and I absolutely love the Moment! Climbs really well, and descends well too! You just gotta love the ICT, I had a chance to ride both a Dare and a Rogue for some time this summer, and I completely fell in love with the ICT.

    The chainguide works like a charm, I've had it since I got the Joker and it hasn't dropped the chain one single time. Really easy to install on the Moment, even though there aren't many positions due to the chainstay. Don't know if the new model chainstay causes trouble though, I have the old ones. I think the model was called urban, I have the bashring that covers up to a 36 tooth chainring. I use a 34 t chainring at the moment.

    It rides really well. I fell in love with the 66 SL immediately, it's incredibly stiff, relatively light and extremely adjustable. I ran it at 170 mm on the Joker and have been experimenting with 140-150 mm on the Moment. It's very well balanced with the rear.

    Swerveon, sweet dude, stick with the Van though much better fork imo, I'd ditch the DHXa for a CCDB and shell be a sweet ride the moment is a good all orund bike don't sell it short by going to light and XC only my thoughts

    Congrats on the new bike. I love my Moment. One thought - at 6'0" running a medium frame, you will want a long seatpost. I don't know how long your Kore post is. But, you will probably need a 410mm post. I'm currently running a Thomson. Enjoy the bike and post pics.

    Moment updates

    My moment is now sporting a Fox 36 RC2 TALAS fork. It'll soon be getting new wheels and brakes as well.

    I'd stay away from the Deus crankset, the plastic spacers they use between the BB cups and the frame can cause the bearings to end up misaligned. For the price you could get an XT crankset, a much better designed and stiffer setup. My DHX-A bottoms way too easily, maybe I'll try to get a Cane Creek...
