    ID rear shock question

Can anyone tell me if the Manitou Swinger 4 way Air
shock will fit without issues on a medium 04 ID? I plan to get a 7.5 i2i
model to try out the Cali geometry. I've heard that a Fox DHX won't fit.

I would think any shock with I2I of 7.5 to 8 would fit with a 2.0 to 2.25 stroke. Not sure why a DHX 7.87/2.25 would not work...it's a perfect match on paper.

    but maybe I'm overlooking something.

The piggyback will hit the down tube.

And you can't go over 2" stroke with the 7.5" i to i or your rocker arm will hit the frame before bottom out.

    http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/782830/ No clearence issues.
I had both 190mm -04 and 200mm -05 eye2eye length Manitou 4-way airs on my ID,prefered longer due to high bb-height and possibilty to use longer fork without ruining geometry.Btw.I have been satisfied with Manitou 4 way until yesterday, now i have no rebound shock ramps up like rocket.I need to take it to shop while it is under warranty.

I thought the 7.5 i2i was only available in 2.0 stroke. The cali-geometry. Plus, can't you flip the shock to avoid the piggy back problem?

I think Avalanche makes a 7.5 with over 2" of stroke. I know they list a 7.75 with 2.25 stroke because I once was thinking of getting one.

You just can't fit the DHX piggyback in there either way. The Avalanche Chubby will work. It's possible that the Cane Creek DB might fit because the reservoir appears narrower than on the DHX.

The Fox DHX (air or coil) will definitely NOT fit.

The Fox RP3 is available in 7.5 x 2 and fits. The Avalanche Chubie fits in 7.875 x 2.25 and would probably fit in 7.5 x 2 - check with Craig at Avalanche.

Thanks to all that replies. Found the ID owners manual on-line. Recommended lengths/travel are 7.5x2 , 7.875x2.0 and 7.875 x 2.25. Also in the color brochure that came with the bike, the fox vanilla RC is the only piggyback shock mentioned. A coilover is probably overkill for my riding style. Looks a non-piggy back is the safest and least expensive option.

I am looking to hang up my 7.5" shock for a 7.875" (but only because I recently installed a 140mm fox float fork). The slightly taller front end does not suit my taste matched with the California geometry. However, with anything less than the 140mm up front, it worked out GREAT! ... Good luck on your experiment.

Got the Swinger on eBay, and fits great. No clearance issues throughout the full rang of the shock. I'm still waiting on the 41mm mounting piece for the top pivot before I get to really try it out and start tweaking the SPV.
