    wild animals

Met a dangerous and wild animal in Mono Cliffs yesterday. Came around a bend and full stop! He was just daring me to go by. After a 5 minute stand-off he finally moved to the side to let me pass. Good thing I had a high speed camera to capture his movments!

Luckily you are here to warn us. I would bet some others have not been so fortunate.

Like the colouring. Nice critter. I remember a bunch of years back doing a solo 24 at Summer Solstice when a sizable subject of this genre appeared at the side of a section of singletrack very determined to cross to the proverbial other side. A course marshal got assigned to the beast to watch over it and make sure the hundreds of oncoming riders went around it. I saw it for about 4 laps, each time watching it get a bit closer to the other side of the trail and then finally disappearing into the brush. A very weird sort of time lapse movie effect from my vantage point.

Here in Ottawa, snapping turtles like to sun themselves on the Rideau River bikepath. The small ones are easy enough to dodge, but the big cranky ones you have to watch out for.

    They move for no one.

Saw a turtle chilling by a bog on the ATV trails I was riding yesterday in Sudbury. Also startled a Black Bear hanging out on the trail (I was also startled).
