video: The Whole Enchilada trail - Top to Bottom

    crosspost from Passion:

After a trip to Moab this fall, I decided to have some fun and edit together the various sections that make up the Whole Enchilada. Took me quite a while to pare down my hours of GoPro footage from such a great ride to make this a reasonable length!

For anyone going to Moab for a trip, make sure you time it to be able to hit this ride!!

    I hope you enjoy it.

    Awesome!

I don't know if you had to do much (if anything) to the footage but the colours are just perfect! You can practically feel the cool damp air at the top and the dry heat at the bottom!

Looks like an excellent ride too. I love when you get out to a spot you know but not nearly well enough to do it by rote. You spend the whole time considering and calculating every move, flying by the seat of your pants.

PS. It cracked me up when you guys all blew the one corner. I saw you reach for the brakes and I was like "Uh oh, what's next?"

Yeah that was too funny not to include in the final edit!

I played with the levels a bit but didn't have to really play with the color saturation at all! I think it helps we were right in the middle of prime fall colours season

Ah, my mistake I though I was Being Phil Shep for 10 minutes, but he was right ahead of me.

Is that gp 2 footage? I am wondering if they improved the low-light level issues...

yes definitely GoPro2 footage. And yes, low light is much improved over the first version. I downsized my 1280x960 footage to 960x720 for this video... so there's more resolution to be had still!

I have an issue with it.

Sure the video is awesome. Actually, I just watched it a second time with my Son. Aside from MacCaskill videos that is probably the first complete MTB video he has watched!

However, when was the last time you saw a New England Patriot's game without 25 frivolous Tom Brady shots? - Tom Pouting, Tom yelling, Tom crying, Tom posing....

You guys have the Freewheel supermodel with you - why no AS pouting, AS thinking, AS farting, etc.???? You guys figure he had enough exposure on CH news and the website?

Seriously, was the last section of footage, AS footage? Secondly, it seems like you were runningb a ridiculously narrow tire? What gives?

    LOL

    A local I assume?

Yes, the final vid is his footage... my GoPro battery died so I had to use his footage to show the last leg of the ride.

As for the tire.... my tire? I was running 2.35 Tubeless Nevegals and AS was riding the Bontrager FR-3's, same width

    cheers

The nerd in me would like to know what software you used to compile and edit your GP footage?

It's a mix of a few pieces of software. I have a background in computer animation and I like to dabble.

I used a graphics tablet to 'record' my handwriting and compiled it all in a standard video editing software. Time consuming, but quite simple. The actual elevation profile is copied directly from my Garmin Connect data.

That was a great video Phil, very creative!!...thanks!!
btw, I much prefer the chestmount view that started with the last segment Porcupine Singletrack It looked great imo, especially with the other rider ( probably you?) directly in front.
Personally I find the distortion from the extreme wideangle GoPro lens and a helmet mount position to be so unrealistic that it detracts.
