    Trip to NS and PEI

Thinking about doing an extended trip to Nova Scotia and PEI this summer. Is there enough riding in these areas to keep us interested for a couple months? We are very experienced XC riders. Our Ideal riding areas are places like Kingdom Trails.

We may be making day trips from coastal towns as we will be living on our boat. We will have a vehicle for transportation and could work out a camper if that would be a plus.

Are there good riding areas that are close to camping facilities. Any opportunities to camp out off the grid and ride from the site would be a plus.

There is probably not enough riding to keep you interested for several months, but there is more than enough to see and do. The provinces are much smaller in area (the two smallest in the country) and have a combines population about equal to Mississauga and Markham. As a result the trail network is not as developed. Having said that, they both have large rural areas with less land access issues so there are lots of ATV tracks in addition to the bike trails that are there. If you're happy riding the roads as well then that opens up a whole other world to see.

Thanks for the suggestions. We will be touring the maritimes by boat so we will have lots of other activities. Just want to be able to ride occasionally. Doubletrack is ok but we stay away from roads that carry automobile traffic. Too many close calls in the past.

I Halifax there will be trails that you can easily ride to depending where you're tied up. The buses also have bike racks.

Definitely planning to hit up the LBS. Just looking for some info here first.

Found a guidebook that is a little dated but got great reviews and is cheap. Mountain Biking Atlantic Canada.

There are some trails at Brookvale, PEI.

About a 30-45 minute drive from Charlottetown.

Haven't ridden there myself, but will check it out this summer when I visit the family.

PEI has lots of sandy loam. You might find the riding similar to Darling Hill at Kingdom.

    Happy Trails.
