    Trail Nick-Names?!?!??!

    Forgive my nOOb status....

After a 10 year hiatus from racing Canada Cup DH and knowing all things MTB... I've fallen off the map. Alas, I picked up a decent XC rig this past weekend and I'm looking for local places to ride.

So, I'm trying to read through all the threads and figure things out but ya'll are using Nick-Names for these trails and I have no idea where the hell to find them!!!!

Point me in the right direction.... please!!!!

haha hey Mike! Phil Szczepaniak here,

welcome back to the MTB world!

I used to race with you in the Ocups (XC) back in the day

If you want some real fun technical stuff go to Hilton Falls, across from Kelso. Great place to ride after the rain too; it drains really well because it's all rock

    cheers

Hey Phil... long time no see.

....ya, breaking both arms on my motocross bike kinda pulled me outta the game.

So, Kelso is definitely on my to do list. What about north of the GTA - Durham forest something or other!?!?!? Looking for tight singletrack.

Dufferin Forest in Mansfield is a good single track. Take your GPS though, you may need it to find your way out.

Hey, I raced XC around the time you were racing DH (96-98) and remember your name from the results. You had a sister that raced too, yeah? Anyway, I am in east end T.O. but would be happy to show you around the Don.

Well, I hit up the Don Valley Trails last night. Managed to find my way around pretty much the full red loop, including the near over-grown loop at the North end.

I have to send my kudo's to all who have helped put that system together. I even noticed a few beer bottles holding some of the berms together - perhaps a memento of the hours spent building the dammed things . Anyway, I had an absolute blast - especially on the advanced portions!

As night fell, I turned on my LED headlight and shotty LED handlebar mounted lights. Single track at night was fun but I definitely need to upgrade my lights + I was a bit worried that a bum was going to jump outta the woods at anytime.... so I'm packing a sword next time

Thanks again for the suggestions + GPS info (Philshep). I'm heading to Albion Hills tomorrow night!

Hey man.... ya, my sister ended up on the Canadian DH team and competed in the World Championships three times.

Since then, we've both moved on... Investment Banking for me and my sister just finished her Masters at UofT - now working as a Social Worker for the city of Etobicoke.

.....anyway, we're still both riding the odd weekend. In fact, I'm planning on heading back to the Don trails soon... I'll post it up, maybe we can get a small group together?!

Check out Rider Mel's guide to Ontario. It's a list of the official trails in the province. Though of course there are lots of unofficial as well.
