    The Torrance Barrens...sweet!! [o]

I love this place....and not just because it's all rock, and therefore instantly ride-ready as soon as the snow melts! The Barrens has ambiance...and if you believe in animism, it has soul...

I loved this place and have to thank BCD and Blue for the guided tour last summer. Highly recommend that one visit this place when hitting Buckwallow. Not that far away. My friend from Calgary is coming to visit this summer and we plan on warming up at The Barrens and then hitting Buck. Should make for a spectacular day.

Deer flies are typically horrendous at The Barrens from mid June to mid August. They love that open, sunny & hot terrain! I mostly stay away during that time.... just sayin'

No stopping. Just hammering; red line the heart rate and outpace those buggers. He is coming down in early August, so we might be ok.

Great pics. I had no idea. I have a cottage in Torrance and have never ventured out to the Torrance Barrens. I'll have to check it out.

    Thanks,

I was out there for the first time last Saturday, and yes, it's beautiful! I have to say though, the ATV'ers and idiots in the 4x4's make me sick to my stomach...they have made an absolute mess of the extension loop near the road.

Yes, I saw that too....and had same emotional response! Really...is it any wonder that people hate ATVs?? In years of riding the Barrens, that is by far the worst damage I have seen. Old Stone Road Trail & Devil's Gap Trail have also suffered extensive ATV damage in recent years. I know the Town of Gravenhurst had signs printed banning AtVs from these trails because by fluke I just happened to be in the print shop office when a town staffer came in to pick them up! That was 2 yrs ago but I have yet to see any of those signs posted !!!???

I just purchased a 2013 Specialized Crosstrail Elite Disc. Will I be ok riding in the Barrens with it? Or should I invest in better tires before attempting to go there?

    Just curious. I'm a noob

Last Saturday there were some kind of small blackfly-looking things flying around, but nothing biting.

After that we were out for late evening walk with the dogs up here and there were none! Gonna be soon with this great weather we have been having past few days! Blackflies and mosquitos don't worry me though, once I'm on the bike and moving they don't keep up...unlike the deer flies that start up mid June!!

My Wife got bit by a deer fly, thru her bike shorts, and it honestly looked like she had 3 butt cheeks. I didn't believe it was a fly bite, I thought she was spending too much time by the Bruce Power nuclear power plant!
