Toronto riders: please help search for missing person - updated

I never thought that something like this would be my first post on MTBR.

A good friend of mine has been reported missing in Toronto and police & community are searching for her. To someone who doesn't know her, she might appear to be a homeless person, this is not the case.

She was seen Saturday near Bayview Ave and Manor Rd/Hillsdale Ave. Lots of parks/ravines there she could be camping in so please keep you eyes open while riding those trails.

She may be on a bike, it is a black hybrid with black fenders and a green milk crate on the rear rack.

Description/pics here, please keep your eyes open and share with people you know that ride in that area:

Bump again. You may have heard Kit's sister interviewed by Matt Galloway on CBC Metro Morning today. There is strong evidence that Kit may be camping out in Serena Gundy Park. Keep your eyes open if you are riding in that area.

See poster in OP for contact info if you see anything. Any help would be appreciated, this woman is one of my wife's dearest friends.

Here is a link to the CBC radio interview. The mobility of cyclists will really help in the search. You folks know these woods:

If you haven't figured it out already, our friend Kit is some state of mental distress, possibly paranoid and even fearful of her fiends, let alone random mountain bikers. There is currently a groundswell of search efforts in Serena Gundy and adjacent parks. If you do see her or find a clue, here is some helpful advice.

Crosspost from If You See Kit? | Find Kit Currie

    If You See Kit…

The following is some advice from friends of Kit’s who work in the mental health field; please take note of the suggestions offered below (and definitely notify the authorities if you see her).

My experience of working with people who are in the midst of a mental health crisis is that they will tend to go where they feel most safe and most comfortable. Kit loves parks and green spaces and woods. I think a group walk through in and around Serena Gundy in the daylight is not a bad plan because she was in that general area at Hillside and Eglinton and there are washrooms, water fountains and a ton of secluded areas she could hide out there.

Working on the premise we’re going to find Kit and/or she is going to find her way back to folks she knows love her….. People in the kind of mental crisis that Kit appears to be having are often extremely paranoid and easily threatened, even by people they know – especially so sometimes – so if you’re calling out for her while you walk through the parks put some love and softness in your voice and I know everyone will because you guys are just that good! Call 911 immediately if you find her and don’t take her anywhere except the closest Emergency Room. I know everyone knows these things already, but we need to be clear that Kit is past the point of tea and cookies with friends kind of care right now. That will come later on.

Police intervention pretty much guarantees the ER docs will form 1 her for observation and that they can Form 3/4 her if necessary, hence the need to call them immediately – not always the case if family or friends take someone to the ER. Once her needs are met medically and she is stabilized then her son, her sisters, her bio-family and she can decide where to go from there with treatment or care. They may involve a Rights Advocate from the Psychiatric Patient Advocates Office as well. Kit can ask for one, her family can ask for one for her – the Doctor MUST complete a Request Form for one – they cannot refuse and its always good to have one assigned to someone in the system in the kind of crisis Kit is in.
Put these numbers in your phone:
    Toronto Police: 416-808-1400
    Crimestoppers: 416-222-TIPS(8477)

Thanks again, it is reassuring to see that lots of people are reading this thread.

Despite one good sighting and three vague ones, plus reasonable evidence in the park, Kit is still missing. The search area is broadening, see info below. If someone were to take ride through the Mt. Pleasant cemetery or through Moore Park Ravine, it would be appreciated. Info below was posted on FB this morning:

Kit's sister, Jen, is on her way to Toronto this morning. We are still desperately trying to identify a few people who can help coordinate a ground search as many people are searching with little direction.

We are getting various reports from friends and volunteers that they have searched Serena Gundy Park exhaustively. Aside from a fire pit that was found at Pit 4 in the Park, that looks to be something Kit would build, we have found little to no clues.

We are now thinking of broadening our search to Sunnybrook Park and Mount Pleasant Cemetery and areas in between.

There appears to be a river or creek near Serena Gundy Park (sorry, I am not familiar with Toronto), but if someone can search this creek/ river area that would be great. If you go, do not get too close to the water as we don't want people risking their own safety.

We are hoping that by this evening a ground coordinator will be identified and we can start to give people a meeting place and time to help with search efforts. In the meantime please do not stop searching. If you think you see Kit, call the police.

If you are helping and plan to search a given area, PLEASE POST HERE what area you are searching so we do not duplicate our efforts.

We will try to update here as often as possible as to how the ground search effort is going.

THANK YOU to EVERYONE who has been working so hard to help us FIND KIT!
This just in. If you do intend to search by bike, please contact the new ground search coordinator:

WE HAVE A GROUND SEARCH COORDINATOR FOR TODAY!

If you can help search today, please call Lids at 416 899 4824.

She is helping coordinate search efforts for today only. She will give you some direction on where to search and will coordinate search efforts so we are not duplicating our efforts.
