    Theo's First Trail Day! :)

Can't get 'em started too young!

Sub-zero to start the day. Brrr!

Pulaski: check, McLeod: check, rake: check, baby carrier: check!

Bundled up and ready to head out into the woods.

On the lookout for trail gnomes...

Good thing the pin flags are still in - you can barely see the trail for all the leaves!

Checking out the new bits from the previous build (we were still in the hospital way back then).

    Gnomes!

    Some cool mushrooms.

We opened up the green out to the double-track today since people were cutting through some undergrowth to get to it anyway. Worst kept secret in town... nice problem to have!

    Love it.
When under pressure, your level of performance will sink to your level of preparation.

Be sure to keep your gnomes well fed, they can become surly otherwise.

+1 to the tiny gnome, only a few month old and more trail building experience than most!

It's so great to see the two of you incorporating the little one into your life, rather than incorporating yourselves into his life. Keep it up. I can't wait to meet him in person next weekend.

    Congratulations!

Reminds me of a "trail maintenance day" almost exactly 4 years ago (with in a week).

... only ours was a couple of months old instead of a couple of weeks...

Let me know if you are looking for an off road kid trailer next year...

Though I'm somewhat ashamed to post these pics after scrolling through BCD's year in review (stupid gift camera - must make time to read instructions! ), I still wanted to document Theo's second day out in the woods.

Much like his parents, he LOVES the outdoors and, much like his parents, he came home with pine needles down his shirt.

Clearing the corridor with a weaksauce Lee Valley pruning saw.

Opening the other end of the Green trail (due to popular demand). I'm thinking we might get to some Black next weekend... finally!

As things settle down around here, we're finding time to get our lives back a new sort of normal. To be sure, it's nothing like it used to be but it's getting better all the time.

For example, we got out to the trail to build twice this weekend! Yay!

We got there a little late this morning and we had some searching to do to catch up with the gnomes. Lo and behold, they'd decided today was the day to open up a section of Blue trail!

    Gnome sammich.

Looking out to the double track.

And back in towards the woods.

It was a real rush to get back to building some more advanced trail. Sharper grades, tighter turns, rougher tread... this is gonna be a real sweet slalom on the way down.

While we were out there, we also met some of our users! A family of dog walkers came by the other way on the Green trail and were really excited to see even more trails going in. And just as we were putting the finishing touches on the entrance, a local resident came by on his bike and it was all we could do to convince him to take "first tracks".

The CA users really seem to be adopting the trails as their own which is awesome. Every day we're out there, I leave more certain that we're doing a "good thing".
