    In for solo six single.

I loved this race when I did it last and it was a complete letdown that I couldn't do it last year.

Actually I may just do both. I'd like to take a stab at the 8 hr series, which means doing all three...but a 6 hour recovery ride may be what the doc ordered after the summer 8.

This years race is going to be killer with a Huge new Expo area that will include a Silent Auction from Shimano! Awesome food from the Smoking Buddha, beer from Wellington Brewery and blow your mind prizes for top finishers and draw prizes. This really will be an event people will be talking about, and all for $45/person~! By far the best bang for your buck out there. AND THE RACE IS IN THE HOOD!!! If you have never riden the hood, its like nothing else around!

    BUMP!
Race day sneaking up fast! Less than 1 month to go.

Only $45. That's half the price of other relay races. HALF!
And of course proceeds go to support a local, non-profit, hardworking club.

This will eventually broil into a 24h solo smackdown. This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

Rode the trails yesterday and they were in great shape! It was becoming a bit of a jungle but everything has been trimmed. Trails are nice and dry. The Shorthills crew have put a lot of work into trimming and grooming trails. I'm in a 3 man team and can't wait for the race.

Have been out a few times in the hood this past few weeks and as others have said- SHCC members have done a great job with getting rid of the face slappers and knocking back all of the over grown areas!

Going to do the solo, first time for me... just looking to get out and push the lungs to the limit and hopefully survive and not be DFL... Meh, even if I am DFL, the day will still end with a belly full of great food from the Buddha and I'm sure a few Welly's

    PRE-RIDE of Course

We will be doing a pre-ride of the six hour course on our regular wed night ride. If anyone is interested in joining us, it is always a fun night. We start at the Smokin' Buddha restaurant in Port Colborne at 6 pm, ride out to the trails. We will probably do 2 laps of the course.

We will then head back. If it is hot enough, we cool off with a plunge off the wall into the canal and then enjoy the fun food and craft beer on the Smokin' Buddha Patio.

It might be a little far for most on a weeknight but it always a super fun ride. We have been getting groups of 20+ for most rides this summer.

A lap will take under an hour. There will be lots of single track with areas in the open for passing. Lots of short steep climbs , rocky areas, flowy single track areas, some tight twisty single track. A little of everything.

Although there are no long climbs, the course is very challenging. To do 6 hour solo, be prepared for a thorough upper body work out.

It won't include the big lap around mud lake that it has in the past but will include some of the open gravel areas.

Pre-riding can help a lot as carrying a little momentum from the downhills helps save a lot of energy on the uphills. You can also scope out lots of opportune spots for passing in the single track and can pick out lines in the rocky areas. The guy who won the race in the past always comes and does a few rides out there before the race.

We had a great turn out for the pre-ride last night- 35 riders. The course is super fun with a few short but leg busting climbs. I did a second lap with a group of 4 and we did the course in about 45 minutes. I expect the really fast riders would be turning laps in about 30 minutes. Its possible they might add another trail section that would add another 10 minutes.

Sorry Unglued, but I am doing the Epic 8 hour race at Hardwood. And it goes against my principles to do 2 endurance races in 2 days (translation: I am too damn old to even think about it).
    My rides:
    Lynskey Ti Pro29 SL singlespeed
    KHS Team 29
    S-Works Roubaix SL3 Dura Ace
    KHS CX 550 cyclocross

Our Race Director can comment on that one but I believe they are going to be located along the paved road leading back to the Transition area in the south end.

Yup, all pits are along the paved roads.

Solos are on the part of Omer Ave that runs parallel to the railroad tracks. I don't think there will be room to park there though.

Team pits are located on the north side of Sherwood Forrest Lane with parking closer to Elm St.

Last Chance for a guided pre-ride... We are doing a pre-ride again on Wednesday at 6pm. If anyone can make it on a week night, its a really fun ride. Complete with a post ride swim and buffet on the patio of the Smokin' Buddha. I hear group is coming up from WNY for the Wed ride. Trails are in awesome shape and dry quickly after rain.

Huge, mad, awesome props to SHCC for putting on first class yet intimate event! Well done...the timing was flawless, the sponsors and expo area was great (beer and ice cream...what's not to like about this) and the race T-shirt was most excellent too. The course, was super-challenging - as others have said, not too much climbing but a really tough course in other ways (rigid singlespeed may not have been the way to go...). I had a pretty good day on the bike, which helps, but even without a decent result, this would still have been a super-fun day on the bike for me. Thanks to all the volunteers and the race crew!

Completely agree with Unglued (can you believe that??)!! Huge Kudos to SHCC. Great weather, super-fun challenging course. The course beat me up on a geared, full sus, 29er; but if it was easy it wouldn't be fun. The organization was virtually flawless, (perhaps a couple of small hic-ups), given the first time doing this as a relay. The food of the 'Smoking Buddha' was apparently a huge hit at my pit.
I am hurting today, but I'm still smiling!
    Well done SHCC!

I also liked the course & it was marked well. One thing
to improve on for next year. Laps were too long, 4 person teams that were there for fun ie: 1 hour laps, only 2 got to do more than 1 lap, $45 for 1 lap is a bit expensive I must say.
