Was it in a no hunting zone? Out of season? Why is it gross? Was there bullet holes? How was it determined it was a gun or a rifle or even a firearm? Most poachers today would use a compound bow or crossbow or a compound crossbow. Silent but very effective.
My guess is it was a deer.
Be very careful if you know poachers are around. Most will do anything not to be caught and that includes some pretty extreme actions. They are the scum of the earth, worse then drug dealers in my opinion

How dare you bring logical questions to a thread.
But seriously. Having been out with a guy hunting before.. The area he was hunting was designated bow only . So the first question that came to mind was what is the area's designation for hunting is.

I've known "poachers" I would trust with the safety of my family, They are not killing animals for ivory or sharks for fins, They kill and eat animals, not for sport, not for fun, and not for money. and I'm ok with that.
It's to bad drug dealers didn't tasted better maybe we could get them together. just a thought.

no hunting zone period, no atv zone, gunshots have been heard in the area...
It is bow season for deer in much of southern Ontario at the moment.
I leave the guts in the bush when I kill a deer too. Not poaching.
no hunting on this property period.
it's trca property near klienburg... the problem is not the guts, the coyote's will take care of that. it's the illegal discharge of firearms and poaching in an area that is frequented by residents/hikers/bikers etc... not a good mix

Worse than drug dealers?! Pretty extreme statement buddy.
I'd say its a terrible thing to do but compared to selling people meth or crack seems much worse.
Ahh yes. I forgot about the illegal deer kidney trade. That must be right up there with stealing ivory tusks
you would be surprised...
quote from "canadian geographic"
"Poaching in Canada is carried out at a much higher level than most wildlife managers appreciate," notes Gregorich. "About 60 percent of poachers are people who are involved in other criminal activities, such as trafficking in drugs and smuggling contraband across Canadian borders. Possession of prohibited weapons, break and enters, theft, and major traffic offences can be added to this list of criminal activity."
Ontario, and several other provinces, decided it was time to focus more attention on catching those involved in the commercialization — selling, bartering, buying — of large amounts of wild meat and the smaller but highly lucrative sale of animal parts — antler velvet, seal penises and bear gallbladders."
