All, I am going to be spending five to six weeks in Barrie, Ontario on a lengthy trial. I am going to be incredibly busy and pretty stressed. I will need to ride, both to destress and to stay in some semblance of shape and I don't think the exercylce at the hotel gym is gonna cut it. I am bringing my cyclocross bike with me in the hope I can ride it early in the morning or later on at night (ie in the dark - I have decent lights). I will be staying in the downtown area. Does anyone have any suggestions for hour-long rides - looking for quiet roads, hills, perhaps a 20-30k loop in the downtown area.
Also, if anyone knows of anywhere that offers drop-in spin classes in the morning or evening, that would work too.
If you're looking for good riding, another 15min. of driving will get you to 3-Stage trails just outside Collingwood. Any of the bike shops there will have maps, or be able to point you in the right direction.
Trails offer alot of variety, and a mix of elevation depending on the loops you choose. If it's a clear day you'll also get a great view of Georgian Bay.
If you're riding around downtown, bring a tube or patches in case you run over some needles. haha
It shouldn't be too hard to put together a good loop around town. You can ride along the lake shore and there are a few easy trails in Lackies Bush on Bayview and Little Ave. There also used to be some off of Essa on the big hill. I have also heard that there are some in Ardagh Bluffs.

Barrie to 3-Stages in 15 minutes??? You are delusional.
There is riding in Barrie behind the County building off 26, I forget what the trail names are.
There used to be some great singletrack in the zone between Dobson Rd and Miller Dr, no idea what it was called as I'd just follow a buddy around that lived in Barrie.
Not sure on what the status of the trails in Borden are, worth looking into.
Dufferin is 45 minutes depending on where in Barrie you are.
Copeland is 25 minutes drive.
I am sure there are some hidden little tracks that one of the Barrie locals will chime in with that I don't know.
We are still riding at Palgrave on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays at 630. Wouldn't be too far of a drive for you.
would love to do that, but I can only bring one bike as I will have a full car and a small hotel room to keep it in, and the cx bike gives me the most versatility for training....

You can ride Palgrave on a CX bike. No technical sections or rocks. Just tight twisty single track.
Your best bet would be to ask the local lbs,The Bike Zone is right downtown,Black Tooth Grin on Dunlop just past the 400 and Bikeland on Anne st(not far from Dunlop). All good guys who will point you in the right direction. There is a bit of decent riding right in town, but more 10-15 minutes away.
